Correct fuel for a 911sc

Is it ok to run a 1980SC on 95 or is it better to use 97 - or a additive? I don't suppose it makes any difference on which brand to use?

Mine (1980) was originally meant to run on 2 star which was 91 Ron I think so anything should do I would have thought.

I have a 1982 SC. The owners handbook clearly states 98 Octane RON. I use Shell Optimax or similar. Not sure where Julian is getting 2 star 91 RON from?

All the best

Jerry you're making me doubt my memory! My car's been in the family from new and I remember it being filled up with 2 star. I've just checked the handbook and there in glorious black and white technicolour - 91 RON.
maybe a change when model years changed? Mine is a 1980 MY.

Mine likes Tesco Super. This is actually 99 RON, which isn't generally availabale elsewhere. Plus, it's usually cheaper - and you get Clubcard points too. It also smells nicer!

There was a big debate on here a while ago about this as I remember. Tesco's Super is 5% Bio-Ethanol. Some folks thought it was inferior to Optimax, and some had it the other way round. I suppose when you're blatting about the place in your 3 litre supercar you can feel a little bit "Green." Well, 5% Green anyway

'Supercar?'...lol...well it says 911SC on the tin! [:D]

I've always used Shell Optimax/Vpower in my '83 SC as she seems to have a little more go compared with regular fuel and the handbook says 98 octane, looks like theres a marked difference between the fueling of the older 180hp SC's and the later 204hp motors [:)]

Well, it was pretty super back in the day![:D]

As I remember, Tesco's Super comes from a totally different supplier - Greenergy or somesuch. (I don't think you can get 99 RON anywhere else?)

thanks for your replies, I'll try using shell optimax as there is a shell around the corner from me and see how it goes. Off to Glasgow tomorrow so perfect oppurtunity to see the difference.

Hi,
Had a 1982 SC 204BHP for 14 years, book specified 98 RON and it liked Tesco 99 RON best ran lovely, lot of difference from the old 4 star.
Stripped engine at 126,000 to replace head studs and rings etc, valves were perfect (although guides shot), bores perfect so no problems.
