Correct way to check oil level

Hi
I've just purchased a 1995 C2 3.6
I wonder if anyone can advise the correct or best way to check the oil level.When starting from cold oil level display shows one 0.25l block down but when starting after refuelling car as per manual the displays shows oil level full?

You need to check the oil level with the engine running, full warmed up and on at rest on level ground.
