Corroded Exhaust turbo bolts and clamps

Hi,

My 2018 991.2 Carrera S has had an advisory at the Porsche Centre to change the Exhaust turbo bolts @ £677.61 and the exhaust clamps @ £ 343.89 as they starting to get rusty. They are not covered under warranty. The original three year warranty has just expired a month ago and I'm into the manufacturer extended warranty now. I couldn't find hardly anything on the internet about it. Has anyone else encountered this issue? 9000 miles and 3 years I wouldn't expect this. I've been told its a common issue with 911. Thanks for any help.

I had a similar problem when rusty bolts were discovered on the exhaust tips when I had to get the PSE actuators replaced. OPC said that the exhaust tips bolts were not covered under warranty. When the car went in I asked them about a loss of power and they discovered that one of the two turbos needed to be replaced. Ultimately they replaced both turbos and the PSE actuators under warranty and the exhaust tip bolts FOC as goodwill gesture. When I got the car home I put silicone grease on the bolts.

Conclusion:
Rusty bolts on all parts of the exhaust are very common. There are numerous comments in the forum. Porsche uses cheap bolts but most members have replaced them with stainless steel ones.

Warranty
This is a must have as Porsches are not bullet proof as some would have you believe. The actuators and the two turbos would have cost me £8k+.

Thanks for the reply, I'm surprised though, I've never encountered anything similar with my BMW or audi in the past, especially as the car is only 3 years old. I agree with the warranty worth having for piece of mind.

Some years ago when my then 986 Boxster S was 3 years old, at the time of service I was told by the OPC that all the exhaust bolts were badly rusted and needed replacing. I was surprised, as car garaged, never seen a grain of salt and around 10K miles. When I took it to my one man and a dog local garage for the first MOT I asked him if he would have a look at the bolts and replace if necessary. He called me over to look underneath, got a wire brush and gave them a good scrubbing. "The’re after your money mate” was his response. I guess he was right, sold 8 years later, 36K and bolts still OK.
