Corroded wheels

I've noticed a few small spots of corrosion on the rear wheels of my Boxster S. The car is just a year old and has done 15,000 miles. I've cleaned the wheels regularly to remove crap, salt etc. although the car has been kept outside (and well-used) all winter.

The dealer is concerned and has taken photos today to send to Porsche for advice. He says they will probably offer to have the wheels refurbished under warranty.

Has this happened to anyone else and is this 'normal' after such a short time?

It's not normal and I would want them replaced not refurbished.

Was thinking mine are not as good as previous Porsche's, mainly the stone chipping rather than corrosion. intend to mention on first service which is due in 2 weeks. Had a 993, mentioned to dealer about wheels as I though not standing up to wear, had one look and ordered a new set, that was over ten years ago, not sure would do the same today. The more money they make the meaner they seem to be.

My sister has a 53 Plate Boxster S and had the wheels replaced twice by Porsche due to corrosion issues. The first two sets were split rims and the latest self funded set are not due to the problems before.
Porsche changed the first set no problem but tried to get her to pay half towards the second set at which she played hell. I think she got them also f.o.c.

An update.

I've had the wheels inspected by the OPC and they acknowledge the defect to the extent that they have offered to get my wheels fully refurbished under warranty (worth about £400 apparently). The service manager said he also currently had two other Boxster owners with exactly the same problem but he didn't say what year the cars were.

The OPC have said that there is absolutely no chance of getting new wheels FOC. To me, that is unacceptable for a 1 year old car with only average mileage. I'll take this up with trading standards but does anyone else have any advice or experiences to offer? It seems that Porsche have replaced wheels for some owners.

I had all four wheels replaced last year on our Smart for the same reason. No quibble whatsoever from Mercedes Benz UK.

Stick to your guns - they are clearly unfit for purpose and they should be replaced.
