CORROSION ON BOOT

I have quite a bit of corrosion coming through on the boot lid of my '08 Cayenne GTS
It's on the inner edge of the recess for the number plate and number plate lights
Official Porsche bodyshop say it could be repaired but would prefer to fit a new boot.
Speaking to my local OPC I got the impression that this is not a rare problem.
Has anyone else had any experience of this type of corrosion?
