Corrosion on front wheel arch/sill.

My 2008 Cayman in guards red has corrosion on the front wheel arch, where it meets the sill - both sides.
When I purchased the car 15 months ago I noticed a small area of corrosion which I presumed was stone chip damage, & I touched it up. 12 months later the paint had blistered. My second fix attempt - all loose paintwork removed, rust removed with wire brush, surface treated with kill rust liquid which dries to a blue colour, grey primer applied, top coat of red smooth Hammerite paint applied - a good match for guards red.
Has anybody experienced similar corrosion in this area, stone chip damage or maybe from inside wheel arch liner ?

It is not unusual Rod, as long as it is surface rust and not coming through from the inside. Even with newer cars it is worth taking the liners out and giving everything a good clear out from time to time. It is amazing how much crud gets behind them, back and front. Good tip on the Hammerite, thanks. My car is guards red too🙂

You’re not the first person on here to mention this Rod. With the wide tyres it’s a very vulnerable location for stones and grit impacts. There’s not much more you can do than what you’ve done already, although some sort of PPF protection could be a possibility.

Had exactly this on my 2009 Boxster.

The leading edge of the sill is constantly grit blasted.

I repaied mine 3 years ago just as you have, but used white Smoothrite and topped that off with Porsche white touch up.

However, from white thin abs sheet made a guard that faced the grit and adhered it to the sill leading face with tenacious (Gorilla) double sided tape.

That on both sides has worked wonders.

Both been on there for about 18k miles and all the car washes too.

Thanks for replies & very good pic.

My mission is to copy the stick on protection, maybe increase height to cover the gap between sill & wheel arch.
