Cost of a respray

Does anybody have any idea of the cost of a full respray on a 924 these days ?

I have looked around the net, and it seems like people respray 911's, but the humble 924 appears to have been forgotten :0(

I am looking into the viability of restoring my car. I realise the value of the car is going to be far less than the value of a respray, but it is supposedly rare (924 LeMans 1980)

Any ideas on who might be able to do it as well

Help appreciated

Steve and Veronica Robinson, she of "Scarlet" fame, in other words the owners of the frequent competition winning 924, tell me they spent over £4,000 on a full windows out respray but that was a top quality rework. I would expect to pay considerably less for a "mask it up and get white paint on your rubbers in some places" "blow job", but you are going to need a healthy budget. I am going to two or three body shops within the next couple of weeks; I can try and get a ball park figure for you. Windows out or in?

Hi There ....

Yep, I know the 'Robinsons' spent a lot on theirs .... but its more or less perfect isn't it

I was hoping to spend less than the £4K.

I have been looking at replacing the LeMans stripes (expensive enough as it is), and was just wondering whether I should do the job properly.

Are you looking for some paintwork too ?

As for glass in/out, I would obviously prefer out. Its only the two rear quarter windows that are a problem really, all the others are easy ?

It was just an idea ... an idea of price would be good :0)

John will tell you how easy the quarter windows are to get out...

They are about 10 hours quicker and £985 cheaper than replacing the rms on the Boxster.[:)]

Ray Northway once told me the way he get the rear windows out is to lay across the back seats and use both feet :0)

Preferably with someone holding the glass on the outside I presume.

Rear quarters out - easy, 5 mins per side.
Rear quarters in - somewhere between 1/2 hr and 6 hours.....

Call Dave Mak at Daytona Coachworks in Stevenage in Herts, he does loads of Porkas and is a nice guy as well
