Cost of body repairs......

Just had a call from my local bodyshop ( AC Taylor in Glasgow) with a quote for some repairs to my new S2.......... asked them to do both sills, one of which will need a patch at the bottom, couple of small dents at the front and to re-do the floils and new underseal.

£1500 !!

I am missing something or is that a price which really says we dont want your business. Anyone got a view on what that sort of work would cost.

George

Two years back i had rust on sills both sides done - front wing along sills including rear arches, rust cut out, sections welded in, painted, sills waxoyled etc and it cost just over 550 quid by a local bodyshop.1500 sounds steep to me.

I have just received an estimate through my Indie for both sills and both front wings (bottom behind wheels) that have lots of rot. To repair and spray £600-700 depending on how far they have to go with the sills.
I think they maybe taking the you know what.

I think that's expensive too - I've just had patches welded into both sills, both wings, the drivers door and the rear panels, the whole of the bonnet taken back to bare metal and all that lot resprayed, the front bumper resprayed, and the rear fibreglass bit below the bumper resprayed for a lot less than £1500.

Try elsewhere!

It used to seem that sills were about £1,000 a side, but recently people have been getting much lower prices, so on that basis it sounds slightly high. With the extra work on top of sills you might still be around the 4-figure mark though.

Had my S2 resprayed (Guards Red), with the drivers side sill welded and wheels refurb'd for £1680 (inc VAT) last Oct by a body shop in Garelochhead, Helensburgh.

Which garage in Garelochead was it? and I guess how happy were you with the job, any issues with them. I've been given a few other bodyshops to try, couple over in Edinburgh, Wishaw and one other in glasgow so I'll see what the differences are like.
I would prefer to go somewhere where there is a recommendation if at all possible.

Cheers

George,
Grant Vehicle Repairs in G'Head. Paint job and body work OK. However, my sunroof has not worked since, despite several return visits to him - electricals not his strong point even with the Clarks Garage fault guide I supplied. I was after a cheap and cheerful respray as my Guards Red was several shades of pink. Not a strong recommend but a half decent job.

Regards

Garth
