Cost of Pollen Filter

After collecting my car from my local OPC, following a 36K mile service, I noticed from their service invoice that I had been billed £30.51 excl VAT for a pollen filter [part no. 996.571.219.03].

Previously I had been billed £15.64 excl VAT @ 12K mile service and £18.00 excl VAT @ 24K mile service for this same consumable item.

I decided to query this substantial increase with the service advisor, who advised me that he wasn't aware of the reason for the price increase and suggested I should speak to Porsche GB.

Has anyone else been charged a similar amount for the pollen filter [part no. 996.571.219.03] and given an explanation as to the 66%+ price increase?

Well I'm surprised.

Just checked my last 2 services 12k and 24k and for the Pollen Filter they came in at:

£18.00
&
£29.76

My 24k was done in July, so the price seems to have been set before then.

Maybe I should check the parts a little more closely in future.

Funny this topic should come up, today I removed the plastic cover around the washer bottle filler due to a leak, the leak was easy to fix but revealed something interesting.

In the attached 'photo you can see the pollen filter as I found it, exposed with what I assume is the cover missing due to the clip arrowed in the picture flailing around.

Now have a look at the pollen filter itself, dirty eh? Odd considering the car had a 48K service just 2K ago, oh, and look at the water that has been absorbed into the filter itself, no wonder I have been getting misted windows.

Before I lambaste the offending garage I just want to check with the forums members that there is indeed a cover for the pollen filter, if not why are there clips?

Was just having a quick look at the forum and saw your comments!!

My car has just had it's 36k service and I too was charged £30 for a pollen filter. I didn't
query this at the time with my local "Hatfield" OPC but when I got home checked through
my previous services and saw I was charged only £18.

Also just before I took the car in for its service, I too had a leak from the washer bottle and
in removing the plastic covering saw this pollen filter exposed and though it weird. I got the leak
fixed which cost me £25 but when I get home later will check to see if the cover is missing or "should
it have a cover"????

What made me laugh was the so call "courtesy" or so I was told - bottle of Mobile 1 oil that was left in the car, only to later see they had charged me £14 for the bloody thing...

There are 2 types of filters. The standard paper and the activated charcoal. The part number that ends in 03 is the more expensive charcoal filter. If the part number ends in 01 then it is the cheaper paper type. The price increase may be because you had paper and now charcoal?

On a LHD car there is no cover for the filter. Never seen a RHD but our filter looks just like the above picture.

Is the charcoal held in a separate section under the main filter or is the filter impregnated?

I am just thinking that maybe the reason for the dirty look of my filter is in fact because it is charcoal.

So the filter just sits there? No cover to protect it from water ingress or hold it in place? Seems a bit slapdash??

It is impregnated. And it does look 'dirty' even when new. You can verify what you have by looking at the part number, but I can see from your picture you have the charcoal filter.

Just checked my own pics, the filter P/N ends in 3 but it does not look much like the one in your pic. The charcoal layer is rather more sparse!
