COST OF POWERKIT
- Thread starter TIMB
- Start date
There is an official price but as you already have a PSE each OPC may at its discretion offer you a better price, as long as you don't tell anyone else[][][]
You might find a slightly different quote from each OPC, those that want the work will be more competitive
I did not regret having mine

Thanks for the info. Can i ask where you had yours done, note you are in essex as am I.
Had mine from new I am afraid, so no direct experience of retro fitting, but there was a long running blog here
Dellbox is correct I think on the Sussex article.
Its worth calling three or four OPC's up as previously they'd give quiet varied pricings
See below for original aftermarket x51 (powerkit) link

Im interested!... Always had the X51 on my shortlist of options but 22mths ago when I finalised my spec I decided it was a bridge too far in terms of price.
Now when my car is approaching 2 years old I would normally be looking to replace it but with the economy as it is I am thinking I will hang on for another year or so and am now seriously considering X51 as a way to freshen up my car for far less cash than replacing. Like you I have PSE and no chrono.
I would be interested to hear what you get quoted as a best price. As posting such things on here seems taboo, could I ask if you would be so kind as to drop me a PM with the best price you find. If it sounds in the zone (maybe Im being unrealistic but Im hoping that with some hard haggling I would get it for £7500???) then Id look to make a few calls myself. As my car is almost 2 it seemed to me that it might be something one could do just as the warrenty was out to effectivly get some form of extended warrenty for free, or indeed there would be a deal to be done in getting a full warrenty and X51 at the same time?
Cheers
Adam
OK, Im interested!!!
Ive just placed a call with my local OPC, will let you know Tim by PM if I can get them to better the figure you have been quoted. That said, I live "up north" so you may not wish to travel even if they do as I wouldnt probably travel all the way down there either, but at least we can both use the figures to bargain a better deal locally. Ive given him your figure as a starter as he has said "they will look to beat any other quote"! (ha - time will tell when he calls me back on Monday!)
Ive asked them to clarify the position on the warrenty too - Im hoping its a cleaver way of getting a semi-extended warrenty for "free"... So far he has said the X51 parts are all warrentied for 2 years but hes unclear exactly how the engine as a whole would be warrentied when clearly its such a major upgrade overall. He is going to clarify and get back to me. I will let you know.
Im quite excited now! Damn this forum - could end up costing me a fortune casually surfing it on a Friday afternoon!

Welcome to the Dark Side - its all downhill from there
x51 is great, it'll need a while to run in and develop full power but its definately worth it. It give the car its own unique character and surprises some people with the mid range get up and go
Funilly enough when I had my further work done it was pointed out that the powerkit changes would only enhance the results......
Warrenty is that the new parts are covered for 2 years but remaining parts of the engine wont be warrentied when my newcar warrenty is up in May. Not sure in practice where this will leave me if something not directly replaced but clearly affected as part of the fitting of X51 fails - but I guess thats one to plead with Porsche GB if it happens. Not what I really wanted to hear ideally and prob the biggest sticking point I have in my mind at the moment compared to just leaving the car as standard... Hmmm.
If fitted from an OPC it is covered by Porsche's extended warranty if you take it out. Power hike is officially about 8% so you might find no impact. On my insurance they were only interested in hikes of 10% or more at a time, so the power kit made no change to my insurance. Albeit the last upgrade they did increase the premium slightly.
Join the dark side.........
I wouldn't rely on pleading with them, I would want it in writing beforehand! They told me that if I changed the anti roll bars they may well contest a claim for engine failure! See my last post on this threadORIGINAL: Adam2S
