Cost of repairing and repainting rear PU

My rear PU has some localised, light bump damage to it requiring removal, repair and respray.

I've had a quote for £430 inc. VAT to repair and respray (with me removing and replacing the PU) by a bodyshop that I've used before with good results. Does that sound reasonable? I just get a feeling I'm paying a bit of a "Porsche premium" on this job.

(Edit: had put a $ sign instead of a £ sign as it should have been.)

Where are you based?

Bedford Body Shop, Rushden, I paid around £200 for full front pu a few years ago or contact Tony at Dove House Motors to recommend who they use....

My rear bump repair/respray (light, but enough to also crack the long rear light) cost me £100 about 4 years ago. VAT did not get mentioned[8|]

Forgive me for being dense but what is a PU ? Not an acronym I have come across before.

Thanks for the replies chaps. I'm in Essex so Bedford's do-able.

PU = Polyurethane, the material the front and rear "bumpers" are constructed from. They are just known as PUs for that reason, although I completely agree that it's not at all obvious until you know!

If you are doing thebumper removal & replacement then about £200 to £250 max. Whoever it is, is taking the Micky, l reckon your local OPC could beat that price..

ps who is removing the stapled on rubbers!? recommend getting new ones

I have a new quotation from another local compamu which is much more reasonable so I'm going to go with them. Also pleased to report that I've removed the PU and bumper assembly and the wing support brackets seem relatively but not totally rust-free, which I understand is quite rare on 993s.

Wing support brackets are off now and the underlying metal in the chassis leg is a bit worse that it looked to start with, but nothing that can't be resolved with a couple of small sections of new steel welded in. I'm pleased in a way that the PU forced me to start looking at this sooner rather than later when more extensive corrosion could have set in. At least I'll know it's been done now.
