Cotswold Rally - Insurance?
- Thread starter tomwinton

It is a drive around the Cotswolds following a pre prepared route. You do it in your own time, at speeds within the limit that you are comfortable with subject to the prevailing conditions.
I'd contact your original insurer and ask them on what grounds are they refusing to insure you.
I've forgotten how many Cotswold Rallies I've done (I've done all of the Front Runners how ever many that is) and never mentioned it to my insurer. Why would I? I am going out for a drive in the country with a few friends. It is no more, or less, than that.
Send them a copy of Geoff Ives letter of confirmation and rules, this should put their mind at rest.
Also point out that this "rally"has been run on the same basis for 9 years with no insurance problems.
If you are forced to consider a new insurer then phone "Heritage " who sponsor the event.
Have fun (we are registered as No 69[])

I had a very long debate with them a few years back which went along the lines of "your front windscreen has a top tint, but that is an extra so we would only replace it with a standard screen". 17" cups would also not be covered as they are an extra ... I didn't bother to ask the question as to, if I damaged only one wheel, would they fit one 16" wheel despite the others being 17" .... I guess I would have to had paid the excess.
Just one to be aware of ....

Slightly off message but I thought I would mention it as it nearly caught me out a few years back. Do Admiral still have that strange policy of only covering standard equipment on cars that excludes factory fitted options?
Finding a genuine like-for-like comparison is an absolute minefield with insurers, as they cut back policies to cover the headline extras and the demand for cheaper cover.
Decide what you need, courteousy car isn't important for me, as it's not a daily driver for instance. Check what isn't covered, like Shane mentioned regarding factory options. If you can limit mileage it helps, and I've had cheaper quotes with my partner on the policy rather than single driver.
Above all, remember that you have to pay for what you get. Saving a few £s on insurance could cost big time in the event of a claim, despite the ad that sucked you in with all the benefits they offer. Oh Yes. [:'(]
Also, get an agreed value. You might be surprised to learn that insurers have dramatically cut the book price of your car over the last year. Valuations are free to members, so why not use the service that's in your annual subscription? []

Just called my insurer (Admiral - they do a good multicar policy) to check I was covered for this - and they told me No. :-(
As I posted early, I'm booked into a different event for the same day, but ours includes visits to both Millbrook and Silverstone. I rang my insurer who have insisted on a cover note for these two sections (with 10% of car value excess) but the road sections are covered by my normal policy.
It was Admiral's failure to understand what I was talking about on the phone that disuaded me from their otherwise excellently-priced policies.

Called again at a time that was likely to get me the UK, not the offshore, call centre..
All understood, and I'm covered... maybe see you there?!
Not sure about their reluctance to cover non standard items, but I'm quite a fan of the "Standard is good" style... so hopefully not an issue for me...
