Could anyone lend me a set of wheels for a week ?

Bit of a cheeky request, but is there any chance anyone in London / the South East could lend me a set of four wheels to put on my car for a week while I get my Cup 1s refurbished ? Don't need to be anything smart - even a set of D90s would do the trick. Vaguely legal tyres would help but are not essential, I doubt I will even use the car while my wheels are away, but sadly I can't just leave it on axle stands as it lives on-street in London. I will, of course, collect and return (and offer a decent bottle of something by way of payment !!!)

thanks !

Hi Jamie

Have you decided on a company to carry out your refurb? Reason for asking is i used Pristine Wheels in Woburn Sands, drove the car there one Saturday, picked it up the next. All sorted, no problems, great job. Just a thought.

i've got the cup replicas from my RS if you want to borrow them as its sat on the mags and i've not got round to changing them back yet. All fully legal etc as they're only 12 months old.
You're more than welcome to borrow them as long as you've not got a load of trackdays booked in that week [;)]

Matt,
Thanks that's a very kind offer. I will have to check with the people I'm intending to use .... http://www.wheelrefurbishing.co.uk/index.htm and see what their timing is and work it out from there. Also need to pinch the 'runabout' from 'er indoors to come and pick them up (never as straightforward as it seems !). I play rugby most Saturdays in the Thames Ditton / Esher / Surrey area, so presumably not a million miles away from you. Once I've got an idea of dates I'll be in touch to arrange to pick them up.

Thanks again !

Is there a reason you chose these people to do the refurb rather than the "tried and tested" route of Diamond Styling?

Jamie,
hope these people realise that they are doing Magnesium wheels and that they will not be able to machine sand them.
£30:00 per wheel sounds really cheap and I cannot see how they can do Mags for that price using the correct price.
Good Luck
Jeff
Ps I have got a set to refurb( no tyres ) but have yet to find anyone that I have confidence in, look forward to hearing how you get on.

My mags are being straightened and refurbished at the moment as my car is at Autofarm having a few bits done to it...

They send the mags to Jasmine as they have a lot of experience in refurbishing magnesium wheels, so I am told.

The problem with refurbishing mag wheels is that the material absorbs water which won't then reappear until the wheel is hot, and it causes blistering of the finished surface.

Let's hope that Wheel Refurbishing have previous experience on dealing with mag wheels.

From a cost comparison, Autofarm quote £125.00 per wheel for a full refurbish. If the others can do it for £30.00 I know where I am going too next time.

Jamie

i'm 10 minutes from esher so nice & easy

i was planning to put the wheels back on mine by the start of next month and putting the mags away again - so you'll need to get yours sorted over the next 3 weeks if thats ok

let me know once you've got a plan

Thanks for all the concern about getting my 'mags' refurbed properly. Sadly my lowly 964 C2 only has standard Cup1s, not mags ! So I'm not too worried about using these guys. Yes, they appear to be cheap, but they do come recommended. If they don't do a great job I've not lost much. My wheels are currently solid black, and I'm going to have them done black again but with a diamond cut silver rim - should look nice ! The thing that swung it was that thay are able to straighten wheels (which the typcial 'man with van' operations can't), my rears have a very slight buckle which they will be able to straighten I hope.

Des, sorry we don't have a veterans team ;)

Matt, YHM !
