Couple of minor problems with window

Keep hearing a relay clicking in and out on my s2 - on investigating it turns out its g7, which is marked as being responsible for the electric windows, but they are working fine to my knowledge - just a bit slow going up and down at times, which is probably down to age. Anyone have experience of similar problems? I suppose I should change the relay at least - even if it's just to see if the clicking stops. Also, does anyone know how difficult it is to change the rubber outer window seals at the top of the doors? I've bought replacements already as mine are perished but not attempted fitting as yet.

In answer to your first question, clicking relays isn't that uncommon. Personally, I'd suggest you simply consider it as a characteristic of your older car until something actually stops working. Then worry about it. It used to happen intermittently on 'shut down' on a previous car of mine but never came to anything and went away again.

Sorry, not sure re 2nd question.

If it happens when the doors are open then try cleaning the door contact switches by the hinges with a wire brush.

The relay lets the windows operate with the doors open and ignition off and a dirty or corroded contact is a common cause of clicking

Cheers Paul - I was thinking along similar lines myself, as a no cost option, just to see if it made a difference.

May not improve the speed of your window up and down but worth a try, talcum powder on the glass and rubber.[8|]
