Now that i have seen your car dropped that much bit lower, i am keen to do the same as it looks that much better, and of cause the handling must be even better as well. But not being as hands on i would have to get someone to do it for me and have fears over sweaks and rattles appearing which a few have mentioned has happened when altering the ride height, with added presure on bushes etc.
Maybe i should have a word with Center of gravity to get some advise.
Cheers Phil
I ended up fitting -30mm springs from PorscheShop, they settled down really well. This may sound odd, but they don't seem as harsh as the stock ones. I can currently get over traffic calming fine, I took the car out this evening down a road with lots of straffic calming and it was ok, with 18's on there is still a good four - five inches of ground clearance. The shocks aren't bouncy, and all seemed in good shape, so I didn't see the need to replace, and they have plenty of travel left even beyond lowering, so they aren't going to max out. I did develop a nasty squeek on the drivers front, but it turned out to be the bumpstop, where I had washed it in soapy water it had dried out, a bit of lithium grease over the shaft sorted that out.
The car seems to be much more stable at speed and more comfortable, but I'm putting that down to the fact we couldn't work out what springs mine had on it, and the fact that I have no record of them being replaced - they could have sagged / been uneven or anything over the past 11 years they were on there, or perhaps even mismatched? Either way, all I can say is that it seems to be much better all round now. My car does have the thicker compensation plates, so that likely means that the extra few mm helps (I didn't want it crazily low - It's luckily sat just where I wanted it
).
I do have reservations about clearance in and out of my drive and on speed bumps when I get the gt3 front bumper on, but fingers crossed it will be ok, otherwise I'll be selling that bumper
Still, I think the car looks much better now, ride height has dropped aprox 25mm from where it was and still has around 20ish mm clearance from the tyres (a little over) although the tyres could go under the arches in their current position too so now worries of scrubbing.
If your thinking of paying someone else to do it then it will double the cost (aprox £200 - £250 +VAT for labour on replacing springs), so it may be worth replacing other bits while you are at it if you need to.
One curious thing was that when I bought my car and had it inspected by the OPC they claimed there was a slight 'notch' on the passenger front, although I couldn't feel it when turning the wheel when raised. I took apart the bearing and confirmed that there was no notch and no wear, so just cleaned and regreased.
Cheers,
