Courtesy Cars

Is it true that OPCs must now offer Porsche's as courtesy cars or do some still use VW/BMWs etc

In the 8 years that I've been driving Porsches, I have yet to be supplied with a courtesy car of any make. In fact, I don't even bother asking anymore, as the London area dealers are always out of stock. Unless you want to wait 6 weeks for your service appointment.

Whilst it would be nice to have a Porsche courtesy car, surely it devalues the brand.

My OPC has a collection/delivery truck, 3-series BMW courtesy cars, or a driver will drop me within 30 miles. So no complaints.

Of course, if I had just bought a new car that suffered a major failure, I'd expect something decent whilst mine was off the road.

OPC West London have been issuing Cayenne's - quite nice to drive, good looking from the inside just walk up to it with your eyes closed.

I know Reading, Bristol and Swindon run Cayenne V6's and Boxster 2.7's together with the usual mix of non Porsches.

During the 15 years that I have used OPC Bournemouth the courtesy cars have always been VW Golf's. So long as they are reliable for the short durations needed I am not much bothered what they are (Trabant's excluded)!

On two occasions i have had a boxster s as a loaner and for more than a day, bot the same car, very nice of my OPC, did not expect it.

I hadn't thought about this too much, but I would defnitiely have expected to get a Porsche as a courtesy car.

If when I have some warrnaty/service work then I'm intending to request a Cayman!

Thanks for the info fellas. I am a bit undecided on this myself. My CaymanS is going in next week because the FM reception on the PCM has gone. It will obv be fixed under warranty.

However, as i am still paying for 'a Porsche' should I not be given one to drive? I was hoping for a 997 Carrera 4S[;)][;)]

I suspect i will get a VW Golf or something of that ilk. It just seems odd that a car dealer is using 'rivals' vehicles instead of their own. I know that Porsche own 20% of VW though

I have had Audis from Porsche Guildford and now using West London who need a month's notice for a courtesy car; I just get their cab to drop me at the station as a month is way too long.

I wasn't too happy with the work done at my last visit, so after complaining to the Dealer Principal (whom I know) they took my car in for 3 days (did need the 3 days) and gave me a 997 C2 Cabriolet in exchange...my insurance (First Alternative back then) would not insure me for this car as it was a higher insurance group than my Boxster S; guess what? the OPC insured me on their policy! The Dealer Principal had had some serious words with the service team...

I think Porsche cars are available at all OPCs but are reserved for the so called "selected" customers...

Always been given a VW Golf... and when I return it I alway make a point of telling them how fast the car is compared to mine :ROFLMAO: but the engine sounds a bit noisy at the same speeds [;)] .

Surely it makes good business practice to loan cars of the same brand to interest your customers in "upgrading"..

Great point Gary. It is the best way of Retaining a captive audience?

Just booked my car in for annual check and exhaust recall. Offered Cayenne or Boxster by OPC Guildford for week after next.

Chester's 'Pool' consisted of :

1 x 911
2 x Boxster
2 x Cayenne

Well that is what they told me anyway

Yes they do have to offer Porsches but only for warranty issues otherwise it has to be one of the German brands. Your also find if you ask that all OPC have to have at least one 911 as a courtesy car. As I had last week when my car went in. If your car goes in for a non warranty issue i.e service etc you can still have a Porsche but have to pay a small fe, its about £50.00

Burgess Hill have Boxsters, Cayenne's, Various Saabs and a 997 (but the insurance excess is £2K!)

Have had the Saab and getting a Cayenne later this week.
