Cracked Liner Problems??

What is it with Boxster driving Telegraph readers? are they cursed[&:]
another letter from a Boxster owner to Honest John this week, and I quote;
" my Boxster suffered a severe engine failure due to a cracked liner, which research leads me to believe is a well-known fault with this engine. The car is out of warranty and Porsche accepts no responsibility, despite a full main dealer service history. I face a hefty bill that almost equals the car's value. What options do I have? Porsche has been singularly unhelpful and downright discourteous".
HJ responds;
"The low installation of the engine is starting to cause problems on older examples - and they might have been curableif checks on the condition of oil and coolant were easier. If Porsche will not provide you with any goodwill, it will doubtless lose your custom. And if Boxsters develop a reputation for trouble, previously strong used values will tumble".
I haven't heard many (if any) accounts of this problem. Is this starting to cause problems? Are these "problems" being blown out of proportion?
I had tried to avoid reading the HJ column but a "kind" colleague leaves the paper open on the HJ page, particularly if there are tales of woe from Boxster owners!
