Cracked PSE Not under warranty?

Hi all,

My car has just had the drivers side exhaust replaced. I initially heard some rattling noise coming from the exhaust on startup and also at certain revs. Took it to Porsche and it was diagnosed with a cracked exhaust.

Question to the group is. My car is an 05 plate, under OPC warranty. Is a cracked exhaust something that should be replaced under warranty or do I just have to swallow the 700GBP cost of replacement (inc labour and VAT)?

Cheers
Mark

Well if it's not covered why not consider an after market exhaust?
DMS are supposed to make a good system

Colloc,
I'm a bit of a stickler for keeping cars standard so that option wasn't considered. Good suggestion for any others in a similar situation.

My opinion is that Porsche will consider it wear n tear, and not a manufacturing fault. Not heard of any similar issues, and Porsche have no control over how you use the car, where you drive it (speed humps taken at speed ??). I'd be a bit miffed at paying £700 though - i'd have thought they'd make some goodwill gesture given the age of the car. Ifyou don't ask you don't get anything in this life.

Black,

I have mentioned a goodwill option to the dealer who has the car. Will talk further to them tonight.

I was not the original purchaser and this is a used OPC car. It is also my first experience of Porsche, even BMW in Australia bent over more than the current local OPC.

Regards
Mark

If Porsche do not consider it a warranty item, you will have to pay for the initial workshop investigation time. If the work is completed by the OPC you may be able to get the investigation costs removed from the bill.

If the car is within the used car warranty you bought with the car then it should be covered in my opinion - the OPc should be inspecting and rectifying cars for 12 months trouble free service under the used car programme. Good luck !

Didn't porsche recall early 997s because they were cracking exhaust mounts
perhaps your car got missed worth asking

Hi Mark,
Your thread is titled PSE, but is it a normal box or sports? I ask as I have left and right normal C2S boxes removed from my June 06 Car when I had the Porsche sports exhaust fitted, the boxes had only done 7,000 miles on removal. I'd be prepared to let them both go for far less than you have been quoted for one (these are not the cat boxes by the way). Send me an email (pm) if this could help you. Sorry having re read original post I see you have already paid for replacement. But if anyone else is in need of C2S exhaust boxes please let me know.

Cheers

Paul
