Cracked rear screen

Paul Fraser

New member
Despite religously doing the chop, I' ve just discovered a small 2mm crack beside the stitching. Does anyone know of a autofitters who can replace the rear screen, preferably in Scotland/North England? So far I' ve had a quote of £1210 + 6hrs labour + VAT for a new top, or 8 hours labour at another OPC for the replacement of the screen alone. Ta.

Paul

I have details of someone near Bristol.

Martin Wright
07778 370015.

The work takes around 2 to 3 days, and he charges around £250. He really does an excellent job.

This from Dave Whatley..

Regarding the chop - this just helps prevent verticle creases forming when the plastic doesn' t fold correctly. It doesn' t sound like it would have helped you in this case.

Regards JCB..

Thanks for the contact. There' s a chap on boxa.net that apparently got it done for £80, but I might use this guy given your recommendation.

I should have said that this was after the removed and refitted the top himself. (One OPC reckons 6 hours work just to get it off and on.)

Hi Paul
excuse my ignorance but what' s " the chop" ? am I sitting in my car in blissful ignorance[] opening and closing the hood when I should be giving it some manual assistance?
cheers
Andy.

" the chop" ?

Andrew,
You should stop the lowering half way down, get out and help the screen to form a nice even crease. It will thank you.
Of course, doesn' t apply to glass screens.

AND never lower the top in cold temperatures (where the screen may be near freezing), otherwise you may hear that ripping, cracking sound.

Hi everyone this being my first post on the forum as a virgin [:)], wondering about the
dreaded crease. I have tried to notice any dodgy shapes when the hood goes down and I only ever see a sort of small upside down V. I do religously only open up when all is cosy [8D] inside and out. Basically is this a prob?!

Cheers
Chris

Chop out the inverted V shape so the plastic screen is evenly concave when at the half open stage.
especally important if you will be fitting the hard top. don' t forget at that stage to insert the bit of felt that comes with the hard top.

One of the Sales guys at Merlin OPC - Nottingham, has always told me that they have a local guy who does a complete rear screen replacment for c. £200. If you need the details they' re on 0115 9860911.

Regards

hi chris you coming to region 8 concours on sunday 13th july, it' s just down the road from you.at dunham-on-trent. just through the village on the A57.at cross roads turn right sign posted for laneham, turn immediatly left, keeping to the left of the gunsmiths house. your see pcgb signs.

Helen,

Does " concours" mean I' d have to clean my Boxster! it' s grown accustomed to it' s normal thick layer of grime. Anyway unfortunately I don' t have it at the moment as it' s broken. It is at it' s second home - Porsche Centre Nottingham (or Merlin as was) having the front shock absorbers replaced under warranty!!

Regards

No you don' t even need a porsche it' s just an excuse for a gathering/party!

see RAVE PARTY on region 8 forum or go to the pcgb web site and look at region 8

I was toying with the idea of getting a new hood as mine is looking a titch jaded. I came up with a decent quote from CE Moore who do them for OPCs anyway. The quote was £1.3k. Okay it is in London ..... may yet do it.

Makes me wonder if the top goes on as before and with a worn one whether it wouldn' t be better to bite the bullet??
