Cracked wheel

So... my lovely new 997.1 C2S went through the rigors of inspection by my local indy and got away quite lightly: crossmembers corroded but sound, so blasted and recoated, two new track rod ends and some bits and pieces and she was good. MOT'd yesterday afternoon and... they found a tiny crack in one of the rear wheels. So, I'm now looking at a new one from Stuggart that's probably going to take a week or more to arrive.

Anyone else had this? Is there no other solution than direct from Porsche?

Jon,

As a first step - and depending upon the nature of the crack and its location - it may be possible to repair it, so it’s worth asking the question of a reputable repairer like Lepsons. Even with a Club discount I suspect you won’t be getting much change from £1k from a Porsche dealer, so you could look for a refurbished example. If you don’t fancy using eBay or similar, someone like Design911 may be able to help.

Thanks Jeff, my indy has advised against a repair, but they're very "strict". Design911 want £1400 for a single wheel, which I suspect is ordered by a similar process to the indy anyway. Picture of the crack, along with my engineer's humourous addition...

Thanks Martin, I'll take a look. It really does need to be a new (or vgc second-hand) one, but it's still worthing looking for the best price.

Is it worth contacting your insurer as it must surely been caused by a pothole.

May also be worth speaking with your local OPC and mentioning you are in the Porsche Club. My local centre is fairly helpful, and they will give discount to match prices from independents, which would probably be ordering through them anyway.
If it has to be new, try that, and maybe even call a few OPCs to see who offers a better rate.
What style of wheel is it? Lobster Claw?
