crackling behind dashboard

Hi, my first post after buying a Cayenne S 2005 4.5 petrol. Wonderful car but I have an annoying crackling sound from behind dials part of dashboard. It's not electrical crackling thank heavens, and stops below 15MPH. Would my car have a cable speedo , as I can only think it is this. I've slapped, hit various parts of dash to see if it is a loose panel but no joy. Appreciate thoughts as I imagine it could be expensive for dealer to investigate.

Thanks

I'm more convinced the tweeter speaker in the top of the dash -driver's side, may be the culprit. Can this be removed separately or has the dash to come out, any advice? thanks[8|]

Think I've cracked it. Under the bonnet, driver's side, I removed the plastic grill panel covering what I think is the brake fluid reservoir compartment. Several cables squeezed in and on one of them was stuck a long plastic label. This I believe was flapping with the air flow into the grill panel. Explains why the noise disappeared at speeds below 10MPH, and being only the windscreen width away from the dashboard tweeter, sounded as though it was the tweeter as the likely suspect. Amazing what a little label can do to drive you nuts, just glad I found it before dismantling the dash![:D]

Hi grezza,

Just had a thought [8|] have you pulled the fuse(s) to the sound system/pcm to see if that cures the noise? (anybody else think that's a bad Idea please say!)

Keep us posted...

Cheers

Thanks for the suggestion FP. I pulled out the fuses suggested, but no luck. It's in for MOT next week at Porsche dealer and will ask for their thoughts.

cheers

Well, it passed the MOT no problem,(just £720 for new brake discs and pads on rear (ouch), but as for the crackling they advised it could prove very expensive just to find the cause let alone solve it. So, up the volume on the BOSE then! Interestingly, they said that even if the car was under warranty it would not be covered as this would be classified as a "cosmetic" fault. Hmmmm, but if the fault is due to mechanical failure e.g. defective cog in the speedometer, then how is that cosmetic?

Hey ho.
