Crappy fuel consumption

After 2500 miles, I'm shocked to be getting about 14-15 mpg fule consumption. I even filled up today and calculated I'd done 12.5 mpg!

Now, I do a load of crawling along in London traffic jams, and the occasional motorway spurt...but even so, this sounds very low. Avge in the brochure is 24mpg, and urban is 16mpg.

And yes, I have screwed the petrol cap on!

In theory the urban quote is for a set average speed not the start stop you get in traffic jams. So start stop driving in london should produce consoderably less than the quoten urban cycle

I have a boxster S currently and if I get caught in the usual london crawl I get about 14 -14.5 mpg, official figures is around 19mpg.

lets face it there designed for driving not traffic jams

I do very little in-town driving but I have crawled around the M25 twice and suffered the worst of the Antwerp motorway ring road. No short journeys but a good mix of motorway, A and B roads and at least 30% has been with the car fully loaded. My figures may not be relevant to your circumstances but when it comes to mpg and oil consumption I confess to being an anorak - I monitor every drop.

Over nearly 3200 miles I have averaged 24.57 mpg (fuel cost £556 - 17.4p/mile), the lowest I've seen is 18.69 mpg and the highest is 29.73 mpg, almost all of this has been on Shell V-Power, I have filled up with BP Ultimate twice and once, when running low in Germany, I was forced to add a small quantity of unbranded 95 octane. I may not be the most spirited of drivers but I do love the exhilaration and sound of pushing the revs, so these figures are not the result of an "economy drive".

My previous car was a 2.5 SE S Type and my average consumption in this was 24.64 mpg so I'm more than pleased to be matching this in my C2S.

Thats really bad but probably realistic if you are in traffic most of the time. [:(]

Good news is the engine will do low 30's to the gallon if you can get her on a long run.

I managed nearly 34mpg average on the way home for Sussex after the X51 installtion. [:D]

Try a motorway run at a steady 3000rpm in top gear and reset the trip. I always get about 30mpg at this speed (about 77mph) which I think is outstanding for such a car. My overall average for the 8000 miles I've done from new has been 23.6 mpg, but it's never been below 18 mpg even in the car park known as the M25.

Never seen below 17mpg myself over a 30 min plus journey. That's doing high revs down country roads though.

Motorway trips I usually see between 24-29mpg.

I only use Shell V-Power, or if not available then BP Ultimate which are supposed to give better fuel consumption that regular fuels.

I occasionally commute into London in my 997s and never see the fuel consumption drop that low - commuting (an hour and 15 minutes) n from Surrey gives19mpg.

Considering the performance I think the fuel consumption is excellent - I average overall about 22mpg.

If your fuel consumption doesn't improve, may be worth further investigation.

With town driving in London I usually manage less than 15mpg. Mix tht up with a few dual carriageways and I get 17s....at a real push with no traffic I'll get 22/23 in town.
