CRASH!

Some T*sser reversed into my 83 944 this afternoon, and of course is uninsured.
He has agreed to pay for the repair - £620 quoted from local bodyshop.
Was just wondering if any has a drivers front wing for sale anywhere (especially if North-West based).
Cheers

I take it the police now know about said uninsured tosser? People like this need removing from the roads.

Report him.

I just wondered if he would also happily pay out if it was a write off or offer you disability compensation if you had been badly injured..................

Mind you what will happen to him? A caution and "dont do it again" ??

My thoughts exactly - thing is - if I report him then the chance of him still paying for the repair are absolutely zero! Rather give him the chance then see how it goes first...

see attached pic - doesnt actually look as bad on the pic as it really is.

how are you going to make sure you get the money ? He'l probably make all sorts of promises right down th line until you hand him a bill for the work. He can't afford insurance but can afford £600 repair bill?

I dread leaving my car anywhere now. People have a total disregard. No one slows down when passing on a narrow country lane just aim for the gap and accelerate.

good luck with the car but unlss he gives you the dosh in advance I'd report him pronto before its too late or your insurance company won't cover it either

I hate to say it but I'd be surprised if you end doing anything other than paying for that yourself.

Next time don't hesitate and call the police.

I've been hit by uninsured drivers twice in the last 6 years, both in London, and both caused a HUGE amount of hassle.

Report him. Immediately. Now. No, really. Give the police ALL the details he gave you. And make it quite clear that you will be 'on their case' to find out what happens to it.

I would bet on the fact that the name and address he gave you are wrong. The Police may (may!) be able to trace him from the car details. This is your only way of being 100% sure you have the right man.

He is also VERY unlikely to come up with any cash whatsoever. If I was you, I'd give him a week to give you the whole lot, in cash. Yes, it's a big ask, but if he doesn't then start a court claim against him.

Yes, you may frighten someone who would otherwise pay into not paying. However, the chances of him having the money and the intention to cough up are very small, and you need to chase him as hard as you possibly can.

It may be worth talking to your insurance company as well, to see if they can give legal assistance without affecting your NCB.

I understand your logic but if he is genuine and intends to pay he'll understand your position. Ask him for half the money immediately upfront as a gesture of good faith.Give him no longer than 48 hours to pay it. Only takes 24 hours notice to make a withdrawal at the bank.
Check out the address he gave you immediately use yellow pages online to get his telephone number. Put some pressure on him .
I will gauarantee that he will make every excuse possible why he vcannot pay you straight away and he'll ask you for more time to pay. That will go on until you give up asking for the money

There speaks the voice of good sense.

You need to get as heavy as possible on this guy's ass as soon as possible. Really.

Bear in mind that decent, honest people don't tend to drive without car insurance.

Also, make contact with the Motor Insurers Bureau - you are dealing with an uninsured driver as opposed to untraced so they may well compensate you for damage.

I would report him to the Police out of principle- as said above, it will be a miracle if you get any money. The Police should arrest him, make him pay for your repairs and crush his car. Otherwisw what is the point of the rest of us law abiding citizens paying extortionate sums for car insurance as we do every year.

I've been insured in my own name on cars for over 20 years now, and never made a claim apart from one windscreen.

If it was in the Northwest area (ie morecambe/lancs) then their are quite a few un-insured, no road tax, no income tax, caravan owning drivers on the roads. This has happened a number of times to people at work, and none of them have ever seen any money.

You have to give your bank 24 hours notice to withdraw three hundred quid? What kind of bank is that?? [8D]

Just a quick update...
luckily(?) he lives at the end of my street so he certainly cant dissapear on me!
We've been in touch over the last few days and we've agreed that he is going to give me £400 and I will get it repaired myself (ssshhh dont tell him about the £75 wing on ebay - just leaving the door repair...). should be getting cash in next 24 hours or its time to phone the bizzies.
He's been more than amicable so far, and has now said that he IS actually insured but its still registered at his old address and he doesnt want to lose his no claims etc. ALSO Im kinda worried that the insurance would right the car off, or Cat C/D it - virtually eliminating the cars value even if repaired....
