crashed 993 rebuild thread

Mik,
That thread's a great read - good to see a happy ending to what must have been a sad occassion for the previous owner.
Enjoy...

Edit: fix my spelling!

Okay, it's not the '72 2.4S I dreamed of but it will do...

Nope, it's better !

Welcome to 993 ownership [;)]

Excellent rebuild story - only wondered - did it work out cheaper than buying a straight Vario C4 ?

@Marke2... Ta.
Yes I bet the previous owne was sick having owned the car for so long. The car had been cosseted.Otherwise I wouldn't have touched it. But glad I did [:)]

@Porker993... Ta again.
It did work out cheaper because I did a lot of the work... the rest done by friends... and I have a pal with a paint shop and 25yrs experience. Which is handy! But parts were a lot more than I had imagined.
I was worried about buying a write-off but it was soooooooooooooooo straight (the seats looked like they had never been sat on) and it had a drawer full of history from Camtune, including very recent clutch, etc that it was a sensible option. Now at least I know the car is 100% straight. (sounds like I'm still justifying it to myself lol)

Well done for bringing a great car back from intensive care!

Nice job, hope you are enjoying it (and hope the fingers are on the mend- yuk!)

fingers are okay...ish, thanks. One is better than new but the other has an odd feeling.... I don't imagine it will be the last time I damage my hands farting around with oily machines... it was worth it though. Thanks for the nice comments. Thought I would be banned from the club for driving a car with, er... history.

Not at all - unless more people are prepared to take on damaged 993s, there will be a dwindling number left for enthusiasts to enjoy. The high cost of parts and labour is starting to mean repair is uneconomical, unless people are prepared to take the work on themselves.

The key is, the repair must be high quality with no corners cut. A full photographic record is also essential, I believe.

@Porker993... No corners cut here. I am planning to keep this car for a very long time... unless I run out of tallent and grip at the same time.
@metric_thumbs... yep, love the dubs. Just can't seem to grow out of em. Got a mk2 VR project (unfinished) and am bursting for an early 1.6 mk1. What do you run? What's VZi? as you may have guessed, I ain't on it.
mik.

I run a 1302 Beetle which does 120 bhp at the flywheel and part shares in a turbo'd drag racer Beetle which will do a 10.6 quarter.
Have run a 1.8 GTi Mk1.

VZi (search Volkszone)is a forum for air and water cooled VW - very active - and very fractious - superb.

Hey Mik, had a look at your rebuild and I can only take my hat off to you. Well done. Enjoy the car.............[:D]
