It' a good day for the Crathes Vintage Car & Motorcycle Rally held in the Milton Field opposite the castle entrance just outside Banchory (Aberdeenshire). It was 21 degrees in Upper Deeside yesterday and a good day for being on/in the hills. Friday's snow was being proverbial, the skies were azure blue and the roads as enjoyable as ever.
The only fly in the ointment is the annual Aberdeenshire Council Roadfest of tar and gravelling. The worst bits are on the upper ends of the Tarland road, some sections of the South Deeside Road near Bridge of Feugh, a section near Strachan and another between between Finzean and Ballogie. Their are lots of alternate longcuts on the single tract byways, which is great fun and mitigates some of the annoyance of this 18th century practice.
