Crazy classsic car insurance quote

I have just received a quote for motor insurance which is crazy. I would be interested to hear from anyone else that is currently insured through FJ for their classic car.
I am currently insured through an Essex broker with Equity Red Star fully comp on a 944S2 anual premium £178.00 5000 miles (I took the insurance out Monday this week.)

FJames this morning quoted me £383.70 for the same car but wait for it they offered it with Equity Red Star ! the same company I am already insured with !

I queried this naturally but was told by FJ supervisor that basically `take it or leave it' with no satisfactory explanation of why they were quoting me more than double for exactly the same insurance cover with exactly the same company !?......

I'm afraid I was not at all satisfied with their complete lack of concern about the ridiculous disparity and am left frankly incredulous

HIC do track cover... even with all my various modifications they came back with a quote of £370... Im just waiting for the call that the car is ready and then I'll be taking them up on that.

Unless the essex broker can dop a better deal....

RH Classic insurance for £117.00 fully comp/5000miles limit/car valued at £5k garaged 10 till 6(when not driving it!) with Red Star ,got details from Porsche club mag.I was previously with Footman James Brokers who quoted £349.00 for the same cover and 4500 mile limit/£3k valuation.
It is really worth phoning round for quotes.

Shit, i'm with Footman James and my premium is around £350. I'll be shopping around then come August. I might get rid anyway, it's proving to be bit of a problem car.

I always thought they were unbeatable. All my other classics are with them on one policy, 4 cars and it's around £300. The '44 had to be on a seperate policy though, they said Porsches and BMW's are a problem. WTF!!

I got a quote from the broker who advertises on Piston heads for an S2 I was looking at - a 'classic' policy at £250 p.a. with a 5k mileage allowance. They are called A Plan and the cover was with an underwiter I recognised.

I think Footman James should be `named and shamed' How the hell can they justify charging more than 110% markup on another brokers premiums ?????? they are afterall advertising themselves as `specialist classic car and bike insurers ' offering compararable and reasonable rates. Well thats demonstrably a load of old tosh isn't it !
scuse my strong words but this kind of blatant rippoff should be exposed for what it is to protect other classic car owners.
What say you sirr'rs

Hey Darren sorry to hear you have problems with ya ride. What car is it and what are the problems you are having ? maybe we can pool resources and help

Hi Robert I've only just noticed that you are also in Somerset. I know its a huge County but are you anywhere near Crewkerne by any chance ? do you have an S2 ? or looking for one ?

I was with them last year under £250 and if my quote had been similar I would have paid up without checking, when it went over £300 this year it made me phone around which Iam glad I did....hence the £117 for this year[:)]

I was with Footman James and they quoted £378 for a renewal for 88' Lux on 4500 miles. Checked on the forum and on Friday changed to RH Classic insurance for £173.00 and they added my wife to the policy 5K miles epr year, garaged etc.. Footman James did ring asking why we were not renewing and they were told they were too expensive and they did not lower the quote!!

Thanks to the forum for saving me money!

Hi Alan
I had the same experience hence my original thread and what makes me laugh is the insurers arent even close to the lower quote, when they contact you they have no backup plan so why do they bother phoning you anyway?[8|]
I bet they are loosing a few customers[:D]

Hi all, just renewed my insurance with RH specialist car division, and was very happy to pay them £127 including breakdown cover, 5000 miles, car worth £5800, euro cover, spear parts and also cover to drive other vehicles. This is for a turbo and i also have 3 points. My friend pays twice as much for one track day[:)].

I started off with a red 944 and sold it to buy this one with more history etc and the colour did appeal to me as they all seem to be red or white[;)]
