Crazy Fuel Guage

The fuel guage on my 996TT seems to have a mind of its own. When I refuel it does not reset and continues to decrease. It will randomly reset to the current fuel qty after turning on the ignition a few times. Just wondered if anyone else had experienced the same

When you refuel, do you top it up, or just bung a few gallons in?
I know that if you only half fill it with something like 4 gallons or 20 litres, the gauge will not reset, neither will the trip computer.
I discovered this by accident, but later found it mentioned in the handbook (can't remember where it says it).
If you fill it up each time, then there is no problem.

If you are filling all the way and seeing it, then I would guess there is something wrong with the sender, maybe a loose wire or dodgy connector.

Both of my Porsche have been the same, as Stuart correctly say's it does mention it in the manual, quite scary when the fuel remaining says -- and you know it has fuel in..quite embarrasing when you notice its a little low before putting it into the OPC , put an extra bit of fuel in and then find it still shows nearly empty[] (wasn't Optimax so didn't want to fill it up)

It first did it when I bunged about 20l in at the end of a trackday. But now does it most of the time.

I've had this - up to 20litres and no change in gauge.

I mentioned it to the OPC during the last service and they did not seem aware of the feature: they checked the needles and re-calibrated the gauge to no avail. Not a useful feature if you ask me and why it works like this remains a mystery...
