Creaking Around Windscreen

Incept

New member
Hi, Since purchasing my 2S 18 months ago, it has consistently "˜creaked / cracked' from around the windscreen area on uneven surfaces.

Despite an enforced windscreen replacement last autumn (flawlessly conducted by RAC Auto Windscreens in Hull I might add), it has continued.

One Porsche specialist told me that this could be cured with a Porsche fix involving the removal of the windscreen rubber and the application of some specialised tape to the body.

However, two others (and Auto Windscreens) have said they've never heard of this and in any case, such a procedure would require the windscreen to come out again: Something I'd rather avoid having got away with it once!

Can anyone clear this up?

Cheers,

Chris

My specialist was able to fit teflon tape, which seems to be the recognised treatment, without removing the windscreen. It may need a new seal but that is not very costly. I have seen some threads where people have used a bike lube called Pedro's ice wax to lubricate the inner side of the seal and that seems to have overcome the problem. I have also seen people quoting wd40 but this seems to raise concern in some quarters about its affect on the rubber.

Hi,

Thanks for the reply.

I think I might put up with the creaking then! Having had the screen out for water leaks first, then the new screen, I think a third time is asking for trouble. I assume others just live with it and there is no long term issue with leaving it be?

Cheers,

Chris

Ah! So all is not lost then!

The non-invasive fixes sound good. To the Google meister I think.

P.S. Anyone know how I get the 'non-member' listing changed - I've been in the club for over a year. Is there some sort of initiation process to go through I don't know about!

If you go to the forum main page you can enter a search on the word 'windscreen' or 'creak' and it should bring up past threads all about this. Without visiting the page I cannot say for sure but you may have to check or uncheck boxes to make sure the search goes back for more than 12 months. I have also seen a suggestion that there is a rope used on 996's which can be inserted between the windscreen and the frame which also helps solve the problem - all is not lost!

Hi apologies for the incorrect information - just goes to show you should not trust everything you read on the Internet [;)]

I've deleted the incorrect info, just to make sure nobody goes ripping their windscreens out to fix them

Cheers

What wrong info. Your posts all seem to be missing now: Should I cancel the order for Ice wax?

Cheers,
Chris

Hi

I deleted the one that said that the windscreen needed to come out for the Teflon tape process

All my other mumblings are still there [:)]
