Creaking/clicking Driver's Door

For a long time now my driver's door has made a creaking and clicking noise every time it was opened and closed.
The noise was from what I would call the 'door stop' half way down the front of the door between the hinges but described on PET as the door support.
Over the years I have applied a drop of lubricant which quietened it down a bit and I assumed that it was simply the internal parts gripping. The passenger door has never made a noise.
This morning, on opening the door, an Allen bolt and washed dropped onto the drive and the door swung shut with little or no resistance.
Once I had screwed the bolt back into the backing plate (PET - Bearing Bracket) the door opened without any noise at all and is held open just as it should be.
The other bolt (there are two) was also loose and had they both come out it would have been far more fiddly trying to retrieve and refit the backing plate from the inside of the door.
If your doors creak you may want to check the tightness of the bolts sooner rather than wait until they drop out.
Also posted on Titanic.

my door does the same thing, but when I went to tighten the bolts up i noticed that they had been rounded at some time in the past, so going to have to get a dremel on them to cut a grove.
