Creaking noise in steering column on 2008 boxster

Hi I have recently purchased a 2008 boxster sport but have noticed that when turning at very low speed there is a intermittent creaking noise which appears to come from inside the steering wheel column.
Anybody experienced this and know what might be causing it ? would welcome views on this .Thanks

Possibly the Ackerman effect. Wide tyres are the cause. Perfectly normal. You are probably feeling the effect via the steering wheel and assuming the problem is the steering column.

Nothing to worry about.

Cheers,

Hi Fred ,thanks for your reply.I am aware of Ackerman effect but the noise sounds like floorboards creaking and occurs when only a slight change in direction .Thought it might be the steering wheel catching on column but used silicone lubricant but no improvement.

Check the steering rack bolts are tight - sounds like the rack is possibly moving, To test this just jack the front up with the wheels off the ground - then try the steering again - if there is no noise now then check those bolts
