Driving on uneven roads in warm conditions -24c , creaking noises from suspension / ball joints is more noticeable, compared to colder conditions . Anybody have experience of this please ?

Hi Rod,

For a car that’s getting on for 16-years old you have to reckon that there’s some suspension wear - elastomeric components and ball joints - independent of the weather; and even more so if it’s mid- or high-mileage.

Best to get it up on a lift for a more detailed inspection by a reputable Porsche specialist to make sure that nothing has failed.

I too have experience of creaking noises in certain weather conditions. It was not the suspension, the rear hatch has rubber locating buffers on each side. A thin smear of silicone grease fixed it. Well worth a try and you may also want to check for excess play when closed. This can be due to either the latch or the stops in each lower corner needing adjustment.

Hi Ian, thanks for reply. I had rattles from the rear tail gate, fixed by tightening the rear bump stops & fitted felt pads on the bump stop seats. I’ll take a look at the side buffers. But I’m thinking the creaking noises coming from suspension/ball joints.

Rod,

Just to add that creaking sounds often are associated with wear/failure of the front strut top mounts, especially when applying lock. However, identifying the actual source of any sound is very tricky … it could even be trim-related, especially since you’ve commented that it’s temperature related.

hi Jeff, thanks for info. After I made the first post, I drove 48 miles on country roads at 13c ambient. The difference was incredible - hardly any noise.

I have the same, however it's actually my seat that's doing it...981 2.7 30k miles. I also suspect that at 66, my knees may make a significant contribution.
