Hi i have a porsche 997 cab 2005.

At my house my drive is on quite a slant and when i drive up it the front of my car seems to make a creaking noise, when driving its fine. Even over speed bumps its fine.

Does anybody have any ideas, car has done 38k.

My humble opinon would be that it is normal if it happens when the front wheels start to climb up before the rears have joined the slope of your drive. It is because you have a cabriolet and there is a natural flexibility in the chassis.

I wouldn't worry too much unless real Cab owners say otherwise!

I agree it's normal on a cab, used to happen to mine.
Try using silicone spray on the rubber seals, that helps to minimise the noise.

At my last house I had a similar thing, a graunching noise from the front of the car as the drive was on a dip at the entrance gates. Turns out it was the little plastic spoiler under the undertray by the front wheel that touched the ground - sometimes over road humps as well. Was the same with the Gen 1 and Gen 2 cars. Not a creak, though.

Hi there

I took delivery of a 997 X51 2006 Cab recently. I also notice various creaks and cracks when going over terrain that flexes the body a bit. Strange it never happened in my Boxster S or my Audi S4.

I'm in Europe at present on business with the car and I got the opportunity to opened it up for the first time on the autobahn from Stuttgart to Augsburg. I was approaching 160mph and the roof was making a cracking noise but settled down after while. I think it was the locating slots either side of the hood and the center catch. I might see if my OPC can tighten/tension the hood up a bit"¦ cheers Mike

ha ha i like your style, 160mph!!!!!!

I dont have the bravery to go to such speed,, i think the best i have done is 120mph and that was scary.

Thanks for the replies.

cherus123, FWIW my new (to me) '06 C4S cab does exactly the same thing when I turn into my drive plus it throws in a few sqeaks and rattles from the convertible hood mechanism for good measure on bumpy roads. The car is great but I'm a bit disappointed about this aspect as other (non Porsche) convertibles I have owned were nowhere near as noisy. I've also been told to make sure the windows are absolutely clean and put some silicone lubricant into the seals around the windows
