Creaking roof

Hello all

This is is my first post:

I have a 2010 Boxster, which is my pride and joy. I have owned the car from new, but started to notice a consistant creaking noise from the canvas roof.
I have tried opening and closing the roof, but the noise returns.
I am yet to speak to the dealer about this, but before I do I would like to do some research.
Does anybody suffer with a creaking roof?
Is there a known fix?
I absolutley adore the car, it is treated with Swissvax on a regular basis and mainly lives in the garage. But the noise, especially at low speed with passengers is now becoming more annoying.

Any thoughts / comments would be most welcome.

Many thanks

Richard

Richard, are you positive it is in the roof itself and not the seals that the side windows run up into?

There are some dry silicone sprays about these days which help and don't leave a wet residue on the seals.

Otherwise OPC to take a look/listen.

Hi Buddy

I, pretty sure it's the roof, as i can create similar creak noise at standstill by pushing upwards into a cross- rail.
Thanks for the advise on the seals

Hi there I had a the same on my 2009 my OPC sorted out whill it was in for 2yr service. Not sure what they did but it was cured

Hi Richard

had this problem myself. Technician at my OPC sorted this for me in about 15 mins so seemed to know what problem was.

Rgds

yep i had this problem-it was a broken/breaking white plastic arm that cracked and creaked then was diagnosed at the free cab event at OPC !!replaced under warranty in 10-15mins

also noted this on Boxster issues list

"6. The roof on the 987 can get out of alignment and the tension bows (elastic straps) can stretch causing an annoying squeak behind the drivers head. Simple to fix yourself but a point to negotiate on.

This is very likely to be the simplest job you have ever done.
The creaking is indicative of body flex, the usual culprit for this is just to tighten up the mounts where the roof joins the top of the windscreen, these two bolts on either side loosen over the years and need to be very tight, you can also add a felt pad to each lug so the protuding parts fits very snuggly into the mount

All is well, the car went into the Bristol dealership and was fixed very promptly.
I took the technician for a short spin and he recognised the noise and was sure of a fix.
I was advised that it was a minor adjustment and was covered under warranty.

Very pleased to have this issue resolved, it's strange how such creaks and rattles impact on the pleasure of ownership.

Thank's for the comments.
