I have now (for the past few weeks) been getting a creaking sound on my steering wheel everytime I turn it. This is a sound not dissimilar to a wooden ship (!) turning and is both annoying and somewhat worrying. This is when turning in both directions. Steering performance is not affected which leads me to believe it is not the PAS but maybe a bolt or something rubbing against something else. The car's a 2002 reg Boxster S.
Weirdly, over the last two weeks or so it has also actually gotten better too for whatever reason, it is not as loud as it used to be when I first got it and I can really only hear it when I am going very slow and there's minimum noise. I don't think that's because I have gotten used to it either.
I do have warranty from the trader I bought it from so I'll take it back to be checked. The annoying bit is that I did do this when they replaced an oxygen sensor and the windscreen stalk but they said they couldn't emulate it!
