Creaking sound when turning the wheel

Hi Guys - has anyone come across this problem - my Boxster 3.2s has just developed a creaking sound that seemed to emanate from the dash when I turned the steering wheel. On closer inspection it seems to be coming from the left wheel area. It is not a grinding or metal on metal sound - just a slow creaking sound like over tensioned rigging on a yacht. Any advice would be welcome.

Sounds like the tyre is fouling the wheel arch liner.
Turn the steering wheel full lock and have a look outside.
My car does this.

Hi Rodney - thanks for the reply - had a look and could not see anything but I tried to recreate the same sound and could not - so maybe we imagined it. We are taking the car to the Porsche Centre in Castellón in the morning and I will let you know what they say. At the mo am thinking possible suspension arm. The price we pay for Monaco like chicanes is a plethora of speed humps.
Thanks again and regards to all.
Miguel

Does it creak in all weathers? I have a Cayman and when it is very cold or after heavy rain it creaks from the front suspension. Like you I could not recreate the problem at the OPC.

Hi UKNick - it was not cold when it creaked and I have driven 4k miles with her and never noticed a sound out of place - hood up or down.
Will let you know tomorrow.
Thanks for your help

Hi Guys -
Got up this morning got the Boxster out the garage, checked the suspension and checked the steering gear as best I could - no sound at all - drove 120k to the Porsche Centre and didn't hear a thing?

The manager of the Service department, himself - José Maria - took the car out with me and concluded everything was normal but to be sure they took an hour to check her on the vibration machine thingy and had her up on the elevator - no problems at all. So apologies to all, false alarm - the car is in remarkably good condition, no leaks - new brake discs - so a big thank you to her previous owners and Porsche in Tonbride.

Porshe centre in Castellón Spain can't be recommended enough to any owners driving over here.

I can only conclude it is as some of the guys said - normal noises for this car.

Sorry to everyone and thanks for all your help.

Kindest regards

Miguel

Hi Miguel,
Glad things are all well with the car great news.
Thinking more on this, it might have even have been a stone caught in between the brake disc and backing plate that has worked its way out.

Another theory.... perhaps could be the tyres losing grip and juddering against the full lock during low speed manoeuvring (sp? help!)
I notice this as I reverse off my drive on full lock - they rear tyres are effectively being pushed gently across their natural direction of travel and this can cause a creaking sound as their grip is compromised... did I explain that clearly?
It's the same effect as squealing tyres on smooth-surfaced tight corners in a carpark for example.

With the Boxsters lovely steering response, this sensation can also be felt at the steering wheel.
