I am appealing for anyone who has or knows where I can get a second hand headlamp unit for a 82 911 SC. Up until Tuesday morning I had no need for one, then a thieving little ......... stole my wind screen and one headlamp unit overnight.[][][][] So now my lovely car is blind in one eye and it really gives you that wind in the air feel when you drive it!

So please contact me if you know where one is, I am not too worried about conditon, as eventually I will be replacing both headlamp units when I get the money, and also when we move to our new house with big garage, alarms and big gnarly dogs!
Cheers
Jo

F*** stole your windscreen! Sorry to here that. For the headlight try Porsche breakers such as Porsh-apart and Pro-9, look in the back of Porsche Post, I've had good results from both.

Now, where are the police and their expensive cameras/cctv when you need them to help solve a real crime?

Go on, report it to the police as criminal damage and theft and insist that they investigate properly. You never know, perhaps the thieves left fingerprints.

Hi,

Thats for the messages, I did report it to the police and surprisingly they had someone round within the hour but the thieves were quite crafty and didn't leave any decent forensics. They weren't that careful though as they did managed to cut the dash when then cut through the wind screen seal and they also damaged the paint around the headlight...... [:'(] makes me sick and angry []

Jo keep an eye on Ebay and wait and see if a 911 in your area is offered for sale, windscreens usually have the odd annoying chip that you can remember, of course they might have been clever enough to have been from outside the area but it sounds to me like they new exactly which car to target for the parts they wanted.

It sounds like a steal to order, i dont think those will be ebay'ed, they are probably now fitted on a car
Sorry to hear that........not funny []

That's a real shame, I really feel for you.

One good thing about living in Singapore - they would get 4 months and 6 lashes for that here so it hardly ever happens. The Gvernment needs to toughen up on scum in the UK.

Hi Goldy,
Sorry to here about this, I know how I would feel if it were my car I cant put it into words that you could print.
As Bones has said Porsche Apart is a good place to start, also in this months 911 and Porsche Mag on page 135 there are phone numbers to call for spares.
Porsche Spares UK 07071 223580 or 07885 664125
also Russell 0208550 7977 or 07831 289338

Good luck and don't let the B******s get you down.

Let us all know how you get on.
Cheers
John

A quick update.

I have managed to get a new headlamp and trim from pro 9. After a bit of a chew on with getting the pats for the windscreen I finally got a new one fitted last weekend. Had a nightmare with the insurance though as I was only claiming for the replacement windscreen through my comprehensive policy so it didn't effect no claims and also didn't kick in my £400 excess. I thought everything had gone to plan when the windscreen company informed me that the seal and trims were not covered only the glass so I had to either claim on the insurance or fork out for them myself, another £180, ouch felt like I had been robbed again. Basically the insurance only covers the glass, nothing else... After a bit of negotiating I got the bill down to £110 but still, I think it should have been covered under the windscreen replacement policy...

All in all a painful experience, but atleast the old girl is back on the road.

Agree totally. Singapore seems to have the right idea.

Glad the car is up and running once more - still find it hard to believe people would do this.

I had a cracked windscreen replaced on my '83SC at my local OPC. I insisted that it went to the OPC rather than the insurance company's recommended supplier. The OPC quoted for the glass AND the seal and the insurance company approved the quote. Everything was sorted and just cost me the excess. I did have to pay in full, then the ins co refunded me as they didn't have an account with OPC Swindon.

I'm surprised your insurance company doesn't see fitting a new seal as an integral part of having a windscreen replaced (how is the windscreen going to stay in place otherwise?). I bet you weren't charged for the glue which bonds the rear view mirror on?!

By the way, my insurance co at the time was Performance Marques.
