Croft - Saturday 9th May, show and track action

As discussed at the February meeting, I've been approached about PCGB having a club stand at the Madness@Croft event on Saturday the 9th of May.

I went to the first event last September and it was a very well run and successful event with over 1200 people attending. It has been jointly organised between Mike from Croft and Jamie who has organised several events previously.

The format is a general car show all day with various club stands (last year included classic fords, lotus, Japanese, etc) as well as food outlets, shops and Time Attack cars on display as well as passenger rides in them for charity. There was also a varied selection of rides and things to do for the kiddies which were and will be continue to be free. What separates it from a standard car show though is the use of the circuit and availability of track time too.

In the morning from 9-12 the short circuit at the rear of the circuit will be in use as the main start-finish straight will be used for drag times (one car at once with official timing equipment). From 1-5 in the afternoon the full circuit is open for track sessions. There was a wide variety of cars on track last year from track-prepped Escorts, Ariel Atoms, Nissan GT-Rs and Aston Martins through to classic VWs and minis.

Currently the maximum number of cars for a club stand is 25 but I can try and get this raised if there is enough interest.

The costs are £10 entry per person
Short Track - £20 for 15mins
Full Track - £25 for 15 mins (10% discount for 4 or more sessions booked)
1/4 mile drag strip - TBC

Furthermore - if there is sufficient interest then we can have a club-only 15-minute track session for £500 with a maximum of 25 cars on track. If we fill it then it's only £20 per person but obviously if we only get 10 take-ups it would be £50 so I won't confirm this until I've gauged interest.

Please add your thought/interest to this thread and I'll get the link for purchasing tickets/track time up once I've heard back that the club has been added to the drop-down list online.

Goes without saying David, me and Fordy will be there! Tea coffee biscuits and cake will be provided as normal. Now if that doesn't get people interested I give up!!!

Update:

The timed 1/4 mile has been scrapped as the timing equipment has been double booked. This means that the track will run as the full circuit from 9-12 and 1-5.

Entry costs are £10 per person in advance or £15 on the gate.

We need a minimum 10 cars for a club stand and a maximum of 25 but can have a second stand if required subject to another 10 car minimum.

I will need to purchase the club stand tickets in a block (you can't buy them singly, website is setup for a 10 ticket minimum purchase).

There is a booking fee but I think it is only £1 per transaction not per ticket so I'll cover that (if it's per ticket then I'm expecting to be kept in chips and tea on the day).

If you want a place on the stand then please pay me £10 per person at the March club night next week and add your name to the list below. Please also indicate your car, if you would like general track time and/or PCGB only track time (this doesn't have to be paid to me but I need to know whether a PCGB only track session is viable) and your track experience level (first time, 3-4 days, experienced).

1: David Chapman + Brave Friend, 944 Turbo, 4 x general track time, PCGB track time, experienced.

Matthew!!!

Out of everybody I thought I could count on you to continue the list in the same format.

(Walks off muttering to oneself)

I've purchased the tickets today. I had the money from 9 people already and had to book club stand tickets in blocks of ten so if anyone else wants one then get your money to me and I'll add you to the list.

I have now bought the club stand and passenger tickets for the following people:

1: Me
2: Marty & Gillian
3: Matthew
4: Graham
5: Paul T & Julie-Ann
6: Greg & Deb
7: Chris & Pat
8: Jonny A
9: Dave & Amy C
10: Anth F (plus rugrats in tow - under 13s go free)
11: Steven W
12: Paul A
13: Ian G (911UK)
14: Keith P (911UK)

If anyone else wants to attend or anyone on the list wants to bring a(nother) passenger then let me know asap please!

The day runs from 8am until 6pm but there are no restrictions to movement on and off the site, we will have cars on the stand that will be on track too so please let me know if you are going on track or planning on getting away early so we can make sure that you aren't blocked in by other cars.

For those wanting a taste of a trackday then you can buy 15minute track slots here: http://www.summermaddness.club/product/track-time-full-track/ If you buy 4 then you the checkout applies a 10% discount.

Sessions are run over 15mins with a mandatory safety briefing and 2 sighting laps - this means that you won't be in danger of cooking your standard brakes or melting your road tyres even if you try :)

I've booked sessions in the following time slots: 10-11, 11-12, 1-2, 2-3. I'm happy to take a passenger (I have a spare helmet in the car for willing victims) or be a passenger with anyone who doesn't know Croft that well and talk them around the circuit.

Updated list.

Added another to the list, 17 cars now with all of the 911UK guys booking track time too.

We're not going to let the side down are we, it's worth at least booking a 15minute taster session?

Each session includes 2 x sighting laps with a pace car, this plus the briefing will make you feel much happier about giving the old girl a shakedown :)

UPDATE

I've got the tickets now and have been in touch with people about getting them to them.

I will be on site from 8am to set up, ideally they'd like everyone on stand before the doors open to the public at 10am, this is obviously from a health and safety point. I know some people (eg Lord Harm) can't make it until later so that's fine.

I've been asked about booking track time on the day, this can be done subject to availability so don't leave it too late.

Drivers on track can take passengers out, if they don't have a driver's wristband then there is a suggested £2 charity donation.

The charity for the day is one that distributes warm clothing, etc. to the homeless in the local area. They will have a stand in one of the pit garages and if anyone has any unwanted warm clothing, blankets, sleeping bags etc. then all donations will be very welcome on the day.

To those that provided their addresses - tickets should be dropping through your door today (assuming Postman Pat hasn't got into another one of his scrapes)!

With a very late addition we have one more:

18: Chriss R

Worthy of special mention I feel as he's bringing a Macan Turbo that he intends to take on the track! I can see some very confused hot hatch drivers trying to work out which fundamental laws of physics are being broken as that passes them!

All pre-sales are now closed, limited track time will still be available on the day - first come first served.

If you're on the club stand please (please) try and arrive before 10am so you can get on the stand no bother, if you arrive nearer 10 and there's a queue of cars for general admission then "jump" the queue. They won't be allowed in until 10 but you will be as long as you're displaying your window sticker.

If you have track time booked then be there at least an hour before your first slot to fill in the paperwork and attend the briefing.

Thanks Dave for organising this adventure in Motor Madness .
Thrills , spills and usual club weather + Some whacky chav mobiles and drivers .
Great to have given my GT3 its first day on track without mishap except for an
Exhaust bracket that broke on the last session and rattled louder all the way home .
