Crossover - wastegate joint

Hi all,

I'm was getting ready to put the crossover back on after porting the collecter a little to remove the sharp lips and excess weld and I notice that where the crush ring sits on the stub that connects to the waste gate there is an indentation all the way round. It's quite shallow but I was concerned that it had been caused by overtightening the joint and crushing it.

I was therefore looking at ways to "fix" it on the assumption that it could make it difficult for the ring to seal, but then an engineer mate said it looked like it could have been designed in to the part as it is so even and I should possibly leave well alone.

Of course, I don't have another crossover to compare it to - has anyone else seen this?

Thinking about it, the crush ring is probably too soft to actually form an indentation in the pipe - isn't it?

I haven't seen this before, it looks like something was not tightened correctly and "scrubbed" the surface over a long period of time.
How tight were the flanges when you took things apart?

The flange on the elbow shouldn't move as once tightened it's secured on the lip at the cross-pipe end off the elbow, and the joint is secured into the lip, but on the side of the cross-pipe, the flange tightens straight onto the joint so could well slide on the tube if it's not correctly tightened. However, by then the car shouldn't be able to build boost correctly and the bolts may of course make some noise.

Hi Thom,

Actually I think it might be ok - I just found a picture on rennlist that looks just the same.

Bolts weren't all that tight when I took it off.
