Cruise Control Question

Hi Folks,

I didn't realise that my '86 944 was fitted with a cruise control unit in the engine bay, until now that is.

Only trouble is the steering column mounted stalk/lever is missing! just a hole remains where it should be.

My question is would I need to buy a complete indicator/wiper/cruise control unit that fits onto the steering column?.......or can the cruise control stalk be brought and fitted on it's own?

Couple of pics below.

Cheers for any help.
Kev.

Looking at the PET (Porsche parts manual)- it appears that the cruise control is part of the switch (signals, high beam, etc) and is all one piece so unlikely that a stalk is available seperately.

Definitely a complete module rather than individual stalks. Probably about £30 from the states. Check under the glove box for a silver box mounted above the bonnet release with 2 large black connectors; this is the ECU for the cc system and will also be needed to make the system work.

The stalk module is really easy to fit though.

Ta for the replies above.

Yeah it seems I'd need to buy the the whole unit. Indicator, wiper & cruise control stalks.
Local Porsche dealer has quoted me £173 + VAT "!!.......ouch.

Yes, I am aware of the box of tricks above the hood release button.

Ouch indeed! Well worth buying from an international e-bay seller. Even including p&p it should be well under £100.

Yes very true. Ain't easy finding a switch/stalk unit though.
I'll have to keep my eyes peeled. [;)]

Update on this thread...........

I eventually found a cruise control / indicator & wiper control unit for under £100. [:)]

Just finished fitting it. Had to pop over to a local Halfords to get a 24mm socket so that I could get the steering wheel off.

Anyway job done. Just got to test it out now. I'll be looking for a nice quiet dual carriageway to try it out. Hope the box of electric trickery works ok that's in the near-side footwell. Guess I'll soon find out. [;)]

All good fun!

Excellent. Also: wow! I owned an Alpine White and burgundy car many, many years ago and the interior was a very vivid and vibrant red. They all seem to have faded to a sort of oxblood colour now.

The white car was always 'redder' than the Turbo because it had red pinstripe whereas the Turbo had less bright (but more gaudy) studio check type fabric.
