Cruise Control

Hi,
Does anyone have experience of having Cruise Control installed in their Porsche?
I do not want to remove the joy of "driving" my 1993 911 carrera 2, 3.6 L with Tiptronic transmission (though some may say that having Tiptronic does that anyway - and I would disagree, as it is so responsive) but I did find in the past that having cruise control on another car with automatic transmission did help a great deal on long straight journeys both from the point of view of reducing tiredness (but ... be careful not to fall asleep) and also of staying within the speed limit without creeping up inadvertently.
I have contacted Conrad-Anderson of Birmingham, who seem to specialise in this sort of thing and have had the following response:
"We have installed cruise sucessfully on a couple of Porsche's, however these were manual g/bxs. We have had problems setting up 4.2L XK8 jags with auto bx because of the lag on the torque converters."
Any comments or advice?

I've got cruise control fiited to my 1990 Carrera 4 and, if I am honest, don't use it very much. Very occasionally. It does exactly what it's supposed to and I think it's been on the car from new.
I would think that having it retro fitted would be expensive. Certainly if mine didn't have it already, I wouldn't be looking to add it.
Nice to have but not vital at all.

Had a 964 C2 tip with cruise and have a 993 C2 tip without it. If I could choose now, I´d prefer to have cruise control. But it´s not a "must have".

Thank you both.

I am just a little concerned about spending money on cruise control when the installers are not certain that it will work.

Regards,

Richard

I retrofitted cruise to my 1998 996 Tiptronic. Admittedly I used all the Porsche parts so I knew it would work before I started, but the control module/actuator was made by VDO and I believe it is used in other cars. I can't see why an aftermarket system wouldn't work.
