CS Battery Location?

My Sport has its battery located under the rear left (nearside) boot carpet. Yet other Sports and CS's I see as just behind the engine while others do not. Was there a reason and year split for this set up? I can understand the weight distribution aims but would have assumed this would have been thought of at the outset.
 
LHD 968s have the battery under the bonnet. RHD have it in the boot like your Sport and my Coupe.

Interesting... maybe to do with access to steering and/or instrumenation harness(?)

 
Many years ago we used to move the battery to the boot on MK11 RS Escorts. Best place for it.
 
More for practical reasons then it seems - wieght distribution being the added bonus/effect I guess.
