CSCC Future Classics

Hi All,

I went to Silverstone yesterday and watched the CSCC Future Classics race with both Mark K and Neil H competing. 37 cars started the race.

Another great result for Mark K who finished 5th with the 30 sec pit box penalty (because he won last time out).

Neil's car pulled up short with an engine issue - but was making good progress before then.

Nice to see Rich S, Paul S and Paul F also. Really good race to watch; 40 mins with pit stops and a great atmosphere amongst all the competitors.

Next race is Cadwell Park on Sep 11/12, Full schedule here: http://www.tsl-timing.com/?loc=club&season=2010&series=CSCC&event=club

Regards,
Andrew

Yes it was a damned good race to watch, with plenty of 944's in and amongst the action. Mark got a good start from 4th on the grid and spent the first part of the race in 2nd place overall then had a great tussle with a Lotus Esprit which lasted almost the entire race .

I was watching from Copse corner at the end of the start straight and saw plenty of cars getting it wrong (one RX7 spun out there at least 4 times) but the biggest thing to note was the huge speed differential between the different car classes. Scariest moment was when a Golf Gti spun at Copse and ended up pointing the wrong way in the middle of the track. Poor guy must have spent at least 20 seconds sitting there whilst cars came round the corner and had to dive left or right to avoid him

Just want to say thanks to everybody for popping by and giving much appreciated support it was lovely, really enjoyed the race apart from the thirty second penalty that seemed to go on for ages and ages!!!!
Unfortunately I just pulled out of the Cadwell races next weekend as I need to get the car ready for Brands Hatch and also I am in need of a break!!!

also I am in need of a break!!!

Quitter! :ROFLMAO:

Very sensible move actually. When I finally take the plunge like you have (note I said when and not if) I doubt very much I'd be able to find the time to do three weekends on the trot - phew!

Quick question - did the white Lotus Esprit also have a 30 second penalty?

I'm presuming yes because his pit stop took a long time. However a quick study of the lap charts shows that your pitstop and 30 second penalty took 2m42s on lap 17 and his pitstop and penalty only took 2m29s on lap 18. He gained 13 seconds on you - get practising young man [;)]

Hi guys, thanks for the support at the race, it was great to see many familiar faces in around the pits. Paul F in particular was a big help in the pits and Malc/Riverside was on hand through much of the day. Copse was my 2nd worst corner I looked much better down at the Luffield Woodcote complex [:D]. Still not sure what caused the engine to cutout but latest theory is heat soak is knocking out something electrical related. Anyways EMC are going to run the car on the rollers for me to get the engine bay properly hot to check it all over. I was much happier than at Mallory, relatively speaking I was about 3 seconds per lap ahead of the cars I was next to on the grid back at Mallory and pretty consistent in the race. Most importantly I was really enjoying the driving and if anything was frustrated that I couldn't push the car how I would have liked into Copse or the Maggots/Becketts combination. I reckon I was loosing nearly all the time that was the gap between me and the lead S2's in those 2 corners alone so plenty to work on both the car and me. Currently the car is way to soft on the dampers and a touch to soft on the springs but that is all my fault as I didn't buy the suspension from EMC which is what I should have done in the first place.

With so many cars on the grid it was pretty busy on track at times, the start was properly awesome. Unfortunately even a youtube video can't capture the noise or craziness of a grid like that. I had an awful start this time but at the moment the start is still my favourite bit [8D]

I've just bought a 944S2 with a half roll cage fitted, mountings for a race harness and a CSCC Future Classics sticker in the rear window. Wonder whether this has raced in this category. Any one recognise a red S2 carrying the reg F40 OUD?

Did any of you CSCC racers go to Brands GP this weekend.??
I believe a 944 got messed up on the start line.. Hope it wasnt any of you chaps.??

Car was one of the regulars two really nice blokes, was totally gutted for them, still calming down after some of the antics i witnessed, wasn't a happy place in the paddock i will tell you just after the "race"................[]

Wish I had been there ... when is the next such race and can I just go and watch, or do I need to buy tickets?

I'd love to see such a thing. Particularly with 944's, and driven by chaps I know (well, know from the forum and may just about recognise in real life!)

Oli.

Oli - it definately adds something when you know the driver/s!
First time was '83 or so when a mate raced in a production bike series on a Laverda Jota, then later another one on a Royal Oilfield, sorry Enfield in a classic series.
Watching Mark and Neil at Mallory recently brought back lots of memories. Think theres a race for them at Donington soon?

Mike

Snetterton 17th Oct is a double header two 40 min races in one day, should be good viewing costs 10 quid to get in on the gate,Donno is on halloween- day race and then a NIGHT race [&:][:D]!

Unusual to quote your own post but I found what I was looking for in the lap charts. There was a point about 1/2 way through when Cieran Brewer spun into Luffield, for the next couple of laps I followed as I wanted to use him as a measure. On the day I was sure I was catching him back up through Luffield/Woodcote but loosing a lot of time through Copse & the Beckets/Maggots combination. The clock don't lie and it tells me that lap was 1:10.7 to Cieran and 1:13.7 to me so a whole 3 seconds+ lost in 2 bends, probably more if I was faster in the other complex. Sobering to think how much time can so easily be lost as on the track the gap certainly doesn't look as massive as 3 seconds. Hopefully next time with experience now gained and shock valving up to the job I can get those seconds.

Mark could we have a brief review of your Brands weekend? I haven't found any info elsewhere on the net.

Hi Neil,Wasn't my favourite race of the year by any stretch, track was an interesting drive, very picturesque in the back GP section,Quali was fine for me nice sunshine and cool air so car went well, but i held back so not to over chew my fresh set of Dunlops, also wanted to properly bed my discs in to avoid getting a brake shudder in the race, managed to quali at the front of the FCs but behind the Caterhams and some very fast Tin tops which were amazing to watch.Rest of Sat was stood around soaking up the sun and chatting to everyone, the racing that was going on was of a real high standard,GT Cup being my favourite there was even a 944 turbo on slicks being campaigned that i had a look at and chat to the Driver, great race vibe about the place.Sunday was a nice late start so was feeling really refreshed and in the mood, had to wait till the end of the day to race so was really impatient and waiting looking at my watch willing time to hurry up,went to assembly area, grid positions, warm up lap and i could feel a funny vibe in the pack, a car in front of me that shall remain nameless nearly stuffed it warming his tyres, then at the start of the race the car directly infront didnt go so i whipped around him,got boxed in a bit, then unfortunately i think he got smacked up the rear and then that car got an almighty terminal smack up the rear....one less 944[&o],by that time we had got around Graham hill and the yellows and SC board were out so myself and the car i was chasing slowed down,a couple of seconds later to be passed by a car at full chat[][].rest of the race was uneventfull i managed to get by the car in front of me but the car that had got by on yellows had gone, pitstop was great up till the point i wanted to pull away and had to wait seconds for two cars to go by....grr...then when i got back onto the circuit a large muscle car was infront of me and really broke my rythm as it was a rocket up the straights and a bit less so in the bends. All in all never feel like i got my groove on.Came in second out of the future classics but still felt very frustrated but at least the car was in one peice. After the race no presentations took place, angry organisor mix up over speeding in the pits turned out to be moved speed sensors or something. My protest about being overtaken under the saftey car didnt get much attention because of this.So not my favourite race,no proper dicing to speak of and felt like i didnt do myself justice after really being up for it[:-]
I am looking forward to Snett now and because there are two races,so hoping there will be some good chances of some good racing, can't wait, this race just gone left me feeling like cadwell did, nothing to do with a bad result just a feeling like things didnt go well, and thats really frustrating.Silverstones result wasnt great but felt like it was still a good race so i still left with a good race fix,and thats what i am after after at this late point in a good season[:D]

Passing under yellows when the SC board has come out,,, sounds a lot like the PCGB round at Brands right back at the start of the year. ISTR to lodge a formal protest would cost you something like £200, but if it wasn't reported by the marshalls at the time?

Whats done is done hopefully something was said in the background,i am just thinking about Snett now, prepping the car has already started, really looking forward to the Snetterton weekend, just really want a good race, what are your plans for the last two days of racing this year Neil??,the Donnington date to do both day and night is a bit pricey to say the least!!$$$$[&:]
But a race at night is something i just can't say no to,one day i would love to do a Britcar 24hr like Mr F,thats the dream anyway...

Hi Mark, I am intending to enter both Snett and Donny but I will be going in a bit blind so to speak as I wouldn't have had any testing opportunities on either track, so really more experience building for me. I have to say the 2x 40min races at Snett will be a bit of an endurance test for me but I am really looking forward to getting 2 races. At Donny I can only do the day race as the night race requires 6+ sigs on the license.
