Cup action at Spa in Hankook series.

A great start by the 964cup then just fantastic fun to watch from then on. Cheers Ben.

Thanks for posting that Ben. The weather looked remarkably good and the Cup was not far off Phil's RSR pace [;)]
Are they on slicks ??

I think this guy posted a 2.53. Didn't Phil put in a 2.43 on slicks ??
They are running on semi slicks I think - maybe Hankook equivalent of Michelin Cups ?
Looks like fun doesn't it...... Isn't Spa just a fantastic circuit?

Has Judith Chalmers got a passport![:D]

great vid, always wondered how e30 dtm would be up with rs...looks faster but will probably need a rebuild after 10 mins[:D]

Anyone know anything about the race? Seemed to be a good spread of period cars - and the racing looked fair and clean. Anyone got a set of results? Might be of interest.....

Oh that cup looked really well driven, loved the moves under the brakes, lots of confidence.

In the RSR, it was 2.46 with a passenger and brand new Michelin slicks all-round (new slicks made a bbbbbbbbbbbbbiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiigggggggggggggggggggg difference). Will buy new Michelin slicks for the 993 Cup this coming year and see what happens ;-)

(I just played this and the other video side by side and big difference is really RSR power on the straight, so 993 Cup should be near ;-).

2.53 in a 964 Cup is a good time, but should not be too difficult to get down to around 2.50. There is a maritime blue 964 RS CS present at each PCF Days (owner also has a 993 Cup "Shell livery," was next to our paddock in 2009 and owns www.august-classics.be ) that laps in ~2.48 on slicks (he is v. quick, especially in Pouhon).

Under braking a 964 Cup car is really great, good enough to compete with the modern cars. I never could get 100% out of the car, only under braking I think I came close to 100% and that was a lot of fun in Clubsport - even in Spa last year moves like two modern cars on the outside in La Source were possible, or outbraking 997s.... (sorry, I´m changing to the Tim Arnold mode, never ever wanted to do that)

What I wanted to say is: A Cup car can make up the ground lost on the straights (I know, Phil, one can read a magazine from Radillion to Les Combes) under braking easily, as long as the car in front is not a car with the same brake capacity and a determined driver. (Or with sheer power to open a big gap in no time)

Rgds,

BTW, for nice illustration of shot tyres (too many heating cycles on Michelin Cups), have a look at the video Josep and my car at Spa 2010 between 7:53 and 9:45. You will see on two occasions the front end sliding quite wildly under load (at the entry of Pouhon and when releasing the brakes at the apex of the curve before the collapsed tunnel).

Answered my own question...

Looks interesting! Quite a few cup cars in listing by the looks of it. One to watch for the 2011 season.

A lot of talk of M tyres --- but presumeably this is on the Hankook equivalents, of which i know nothing ??
