Need new Bilsteins front and rear -revalve or new, what's the verdict??

Fistly, from the ammount of movement in the suspension felt from inside the car I am slightly amazed the cuppies had any suspension at all [:D]

Surely it has to be down to cost...do you have prices for new and refurbished....nothing wrong with a set of re-valved Bilsteins, but if the labur works out more than a discounted new set sitting on someones shelf, what is the point?

I am aware these are clubsport and not cup,,,but could they be of use with new cup springs???

Mel,
just got the RS rears back from being rebuilt by Bilstein - still waiting for the bill which should be a fair bit less than new ones,
BUT - they've had them since the end of November!

Have either of you altered the Bump/rebound settings when having them serviced?
My experience having them serviced is they come back feeling like new. Ocasionally they loose their "new " feeling a bit sooner though. Justy depends on their previous life!!

Have always been advised to refurb, rather than replace, but then I never had to do it, so cannot help. Isn't this a helpful message? [:D][:D][:D][:D]

The shocks in the piston heads ad look like standard 964RS fronts and the harder HD version rears. The standard 64RS fronts can't be revalved. The cup versions are completely different and can be revalved. The cups are night and day different. The 64RS top mounts are different from the cups also, making spring choice interesting if you try to mix and match as the height are again different oh and the there is the difference in diameter of the springs too!
There was more than one version of cup springs that's for sure but I don't beileve (not 100% on this) that the 64RS clubsport had different suspension to the standard car.
I do agree with Paul though it comes down to price and lead time which ever is the chaeper and or quicker. I don't think the end product would be much different.

Hi Melv,

I just talked to Franz Konrad from Konrad Motorsport about your shocks. He really knows his business and says that Bilstein could revalve them in case you can persuade them to do that. They might refuse it, at least it could take a long time. If it´s done by Bilstein (noone else, please) he says they ´ll be like new.

He had no idea about the cost in comparison to new ones.

Concerning set up there ´re rumours about different versions of shocks and springs for the Cup cars but I have no personal experience. I heard about a shocks and springs combination developed by Roland Kußmaul with Bilstein that makes a Cup car a little more "lovely", but that´s all I know about it.

Hope that helps, think I´d go for ne ones.

Rgds

Thanx for feedback guys.

I've been told two week turn round for a re-valve.....

Melv,
bill to refurb came to £155 including vat & delivery, to be fair to Bilstein once I finally set them a deadline they were done within 2 weeks.
