Cup Mirrors glass removal?

Any one got any tips for removing the glass from the teardrop mirrors?

I've got a set of these and need to put 968 bases on them. I've unlocked the glass with a flat base screwdriver through the hole at the bottom, but they ain't budging, and I don't want to pull too hard on them, for obvious reasons.[&:]

Also, I assume the wiring is different to a '92 S2 as they came off a speed yellow 993 (I think)?
Cheers J

IIRC you will need a 14mm allen key ground down on one side to get the 993 bases off to fit the 968 ones instead.

The wiring will be different (regardless of the colour of the 993 [8D]), but your old motors will fit fine; they position th eglass about 3mm further out of the case is all.

The glass comes out exactly the same as on the flag type mirrors, so it must just be tight. The bit you will find fun is compressing the spring and unlatching the pin to separate the halves then doing the reverse to put the 968 ones on, all without damaging the paint. Again that's the same as the flag type mirrors as I recall i.e. you need a tool that happens to be the same as a Ford (Pinto?) head bolt one.

Thanks for the help,Fen.

Ahh,looks like it's easier to just transplant the motors from the flags instead of matching the wiring up. Funnily enough my local indy said the same thing about compressing the springs, though since the S2 is red the mirrors will need painted anyway, I won't be too worried about damaging the paint.

This morning,I found what looks like a pretty detailed procedure for the swap here if anyone is interested:

You will want to paint the bases off the mirrors though, so you need to assemble them after painting - when the paint is soft unless you wait ages. That's the tricky part.
