Cup Mirrors - part numbers

Hi

I've bought a pair of cup mirrors on e-bay for my LHD C2 and before I send them off to be painted wanted to confirm that I have the correct bases (the seller sold them as LHD).

I've found the PET parts list on Rennlist and it shows the following part numbers:

LH base: 965.731.241.00
RH base: 965.731.242.01

The number for the left base matches mine but the right hand one doesn't. Mine shows: 965.731.242.00.

Can anybody confirm what part numbers are correct?

Thanks in advance

Jonathan

hi Jonathan

The part number 965.731.242.00 is for the drivers side RHD and 965.731.241.00 is for passenger side LHD. Seems you have one of each.

Just to confirm. Dave AKA computamedic told me that these were the correct numbers a few weeks ago (thanks Dave)

RHD 965.731.241.01 passenger
965.731.242.00 Drivers side

LHD 965.731.241.00 (LHS)
965.731.242.01 (RHS)

You need to make up a tool to strip down mirror for painting and to change base. I can do this for you if required. Bases are quite cheap. So if you get the base I can swap it over for you.

Let me know

Thanks for your quick replies. I do seem to have one of each - not sure how my seller managed that! Any idea on the approximate cost of the bases if I can't get the correct one out of him?

Thanks also for the offer of a dismantling tool. I used a 3/8" socket extension in a vice, inserted that into the guide tube and pushed down to dismantle. This worked fine for getting them apart but not sure whether this method will work for getting them back together again without damaging the paint as it seems that a lot of downward force will be needed to compress the spring. What does your tool consist of?

Hi Jonathan

The bases are £35 pounds from design 911 plus postage etc.

Well done for dismantling your mirrors!

Putting them back together is a different story!
I made up a 13mm hex shaft with m8 clearance hole through. Also a special dished washer that allows the spring to compress inside the mirror which I made you will also need a piece of m8 studding. When the spring is compressed then you can turn the 13mm shaft with a spanner to locate the mirror in its locked postion. I would not like to do this job without the tool as you will damage your new paint.

I have been away for a while so haven't finished the job yet. Will be picking up the mirrors this weekend - I'll let you know how it goes. Do you have any more detail on the tool you made up?

Thanks again

Jonathan

Thanks Tim. Picked up the painted mirrors today, made up a tool to compress the springs and fitted. All went well and the car looks great. If anyone else is going to fit these and needs any info on this I now have several internet sourced articles and the compression "tool" - let me know if you need them.

I also have a spare base for a RHD car, driver's side - part number 965.731.242.00, all lugs intact. Let me know if you want it. It'll cost less than a new one.

Regards

Jonathan
