Cup Pipe / Cat Bypass

Hi,
Thinking of moving up to a 964 from a 3.2 and just doing a bit of background research. A question that I'm sure has been asked before .....

The car I'm looking at is a '93 model year. As I understand for 1992 onwards cat. convertors are mandatory. I assume that a Cup pipe could still be installed ? How difficult would it be to swap a cat bypass for a normal cat at MOT time ?

Thanks in advance

Jamie

I would think it would be a swine to do first time, then if you assemble it with high temp copper grease with new SS studs and nuts it should only take you about 1/2 hour to 1 hour to change

Jamie,

I have this set up on mine and it drives and sounds so much better now ! However if you have an understanding MOT guy there would be no reason to have to swop them over.

It might be 1st reg in 93 but does it have an N or a P in the Chassis number. If it has N you are ok. Mine was 1st reg in Austria March 93 but manufactured in 92. Last 4 numbers 1975 so I do not think to many were made in 93.

my car is 92 k reg and have thought about this mod in the future ,so i simply bought a J reg private plate so mot testers wont look for a cat...quite happy with a g pipe for now best mod for under £100 and you will get £70 for your old silencer...

You should get a 100 cell sports cat, car stays legal for MOT and replace the rear silencer with a Cup Pipe, taking out the end silencer with a g-Pipe would be too loud. It's up to you all very easy to to put back. With a Cup Pipe on will bring the car in about 103db with G-Ppie as well 110db++[;)]
