After mulling the options i think a cup pipe will be all thats needed
for a targa. Anyone looked into the best source lately ? Dansk seems
good make & easy to fit.

There's one on ebay, claimed to be original Porsche, absolute bargain [;)]. Take a look for yourself. Quite fancy one on my targa to go along with my cat bypass.

£900 , must the one made from unobtainium ! with the weak pound i think we need to find one in the UK made from
normal metal.

Hi Jonny,I looked around and found they were quite expensive so I cut the two flared end pipes off at the silencer and just welded a straight tube between. You just have to make sure the flared ends are the same centres as the original pipe dimensions and that they are both in line with each other.Sounds fantastic and cost nothing, but I am a tight northern git.

Hi Gazzy

I was thinking of doing the same. Is it stainless steel? If so, is it easy to weld with a MIG and the right wire?

Thanks

Keith

Somebody might know more than me but it didn't strike me as being proper stainless, more like rustless which is due to,I think,to a lower chromium content than stainless.Anyway, I welded it to a mild steel tube with a mig set using normal wire as used on mild steel.Everything welded up without any problems, just make sure you get the centres right so it doesn't strain the other silencers and keep the two ends in line.

Good idea if you can weld and dont want to keep the original. Cheapest dansk ( as fitted to RS )
i have found so far is from design 911 - £197 - incl VAT and delivery.

My advice if you're going to make your own cup pipe is to buy a used primary first and do it to that. You never know if you will need to go back to the primary. Recently my cat disintegrated and is now replaced with a de-cat. This means that it's too loud (for me) with my cup pipe fitted. So the cup pipe has come off and the primary put back on. At the moment I'll just store the cup pipe because according to the ebay ad it's worth £925 [:D]

Been reading this with a little interest, as a soon-to-be 964 owner..
Does the Cup Pipe just replace the rear silencer ? If so whats the main reason for having one, increased noise or power or both >

A few years ago i had a powerflow exhaust custom made for a car of mine and was wondering if this is then something that they could easily tackle ? from memory i had a CAT Back System (one piece) for around £325, so a CUP type pipe woulls surely be realtively cheap and carry their lifetime gtee..

Any thoughts > As a novice of course i might be barking completely up the wrong tree..

The main advantage of the cup pipe is that it saves a lot of weight compared to the primary silencer. The same can be said of a cat bypass or fitting a G pipe in place of the final silencer. However the cup pipe loses weight in the middle of the car which means you don't upset the balance.

Bypassing any one of the three exhaust pieces will increase the noise but the general concensus is that it is only the cat bypass that produces any extra ponies because it's the cat that is most restrictive. Bypass more than one component and they get very noisy [;)]

Im personally not convinced about Powerflow type systems. Im no engineer but I would have thought a custom exhaust wont be designed for your specific car like an off the shelf product would be? From memory someone mentioned that back pressure was an issue?

Chris

In the context of cutting it and welding ityourself - the powerflow option has got to be as good ??
