Cure for turbo lag?

Before we go any further I just want to say this isn't my idea.

I am happy with the top end power of my car but I am looking at different ways of improving low end grunt. Most of the more Orthodox solutions are lots of money so I am intrigued by this as it would only cost a few hundred quid.

Any way here goes.... Nitrous Oxide.

Apparently this could be plumbed in and used only between say 2000 and 3000 RPM with out too much trouble and would be fairly safe.

I don't like the idea one jot, but really only because it all seems a bit naff and boy racer.

Is there a good argument for it?
 
I warned you that its not conventional... But used as off boost, full throttle, above 2000 rpm solution, it will reduce lag.... Using 10 to 15 BHP jets in the NOS, you will also not put any heavy strain on anything.. and its cheap.

On the other hand, you could have a 3.2 engine or a ball bearing turbo... either of these two solutions are not cheap.

Using NOS to reduce lag isnt something new... My father was fitting it to 911 turbo's in the late 1970's as anti lag.

The other benefit of NOS, it seriously reduces inlet charge tempretures, which is a good thing on turbo charged cars. After a hard run with a high power setup, your intake manifold will often have ice forming on it!

Can someone give me a good reason not to cross over to the dark side....
 
I've often thought about that as a solution to lag - another option would be to have a small supercharger with a clutch that works below 3krevs which de-clutches once the turbo gets on song. Is there enough room under the intake manifold for a twin turbo setup??

In anycase apparently alot of the off-the-shelf chip solutions married to a Dual Port Wastegate can vastly reduce turbo lag. In a week or so i'll confirm this as i'll have fitted the chips i've just ordered.
 
I think the biggest reducer of turbo latency in my experience was losing the barn door AFM. If you think about it when the turbo isn't spinning enough to create any boost it isn't going to be hampered by the wastegate being open, so the cause of lag can't be lost boost as during lag there isn't any boost to lose. On the other hand making it easier for the cold side to draw air in through the filter and air flow meter is going to let the turbo spool up more easily.
 
Or set your boost controller so it doesn't boost at all.......but then that might be infinite lag.....or like driving a Lux. [:D]

I've no problem with lag, can keep up with the convoys when I find them AND can keep my sandwiches in my rear spoiler.
