Current 993 Prices

Where do people see 993 prices settling at the moment? I have my eye on a decent 40K mile C4 at £32K (96 Varioram) Blue with grey interior- no accidents, has almost FPSH (couple of sercices at non porsche places early in its life).

I don't want to do my balls in depreciation, but assuming I do 5K miles, what do you think my chances are of selling it at around £30K mark in 12 months time?

I would say you could do better for the money look at Johngreenaway car on the for sale forum. It almost tempted me before I got mine. Its an S which will hold there value better, nice colours and a 97P, with 2k exhaust. You could always sell the exhaust and save some money. It depends if you would buy privately or prefer buying at a dealers. I dont know Johngreenway or have ever seen his car but it sure looks nice.

I would have thought buying a 993 would be a passion, not buying to sell as soon as, if you wanted a car that wont loose any value over a year buy a 1998 996 with approx 70k to 80k on the clock for £22k( might take some finding) I saw a few and I would think thay would hold there value over a few years easily (Top car Auctions are a good place for 996's). Im sure the 996 will get very sought after and will settle in price.

Regards, David.

Sounds about right if it's from a reputable dealer with a 12 month warranty, fresh tyres and the clutch replaced. If the clutch hasn't been replaced, it's possible that it may need changing soon - depending on the driving styles of the previous owners and you. If the suspension hasn't been changed (ideally for Billies), then they ARE due for replacement.

Already owned a 996, and I lost an arm and a leg when I sold it. Won't go back there again in a hurry. I'm not planning on ditching the 993 soon after I buy it, I just want to be realistic about the loss I might incur. If it's 10K then I'll steer clear of it.

How much does suspension cost?

Drove a 993 C4 and loved it. Better than the C2S - which didn't feel as connected and the TT which seemed too much of a handful.

Cost of suspension depends on what you go for. The one thing you immediately strike off your list is OEM.

I went for the Bilstein HD's and H&R springs, which is a very good package for this car. If you buy from Carnewal and get it fitted by an Indie cost will be about £1100 all in.

Unless the market totally collapses there is no way that you will lose anything like 10k in 12 months, can't see much above 2k being lost as long as the car is in good condition and you look after it.

Just saw the post re the difference between the cars you tried. I tried several before buying and have changed a number of things since buying. Tyres, tyre wear, wheel size, all the tracking and wheel adjustments (toe in etc), suspension etc make the world of difference to handling and feel. On any car over a few years old you can't guarantee that any of them will be as they ought to be and without a proper garage check quite significant variations can be hard to spot (obviously bald tyres and the steering wheel knocked 45 degrees out of true are a more obvious giveaway of why a car feels odd).

Check over the other threads or talk to people with no axe to grind and a lot of experience before settling on a model.

Good luck
